The Dragon Prince Rare Ships! (Part 1)

I’m finally finished with the first batch of my TDP rare ship fanart. I’m very happy with how they turned out!

1. Ibisoren (Ibis x Soren)

The pose was inspired by this lovely drawing by Beedalee-Art on DA.

When I first learned about this ship, it seems pretty random to me, until my boyfriend and I started talking about it. What do these guys have in common? Well, they both have well-defined chins! And the sky theme? Ibis is a sky mage and his lover is... Soren (I stole this joke from someone on tumblr, but I don’t even remember who I stole it from D:)

Jokes aside, even though we haven’t seen much of Ibis, I do think they would be a good match personality-wise. Soren’s enthusiasm would balance Ibis’ introverted nature wonderfully. And as a sky mage, Ibis is flexible to change, which is perfect for someone in a relationship with an adventurous person.

2. Khessamaya (Khessa x Amaya)

Although Khessa and Janai are sisters, they are still different, which is why I don’t see this ship as being in any way similar to Jamaya. Sure, both ships have a woman with a fiery personality in a relationship with a strong-willed, yet generally coll-headed woman, but I feel like Khessa’s would evoke a more passionate part in Amaya. Khessa seems to value honor and integrity above all else, which just happen to be Amaya’s defining personality traits.

3. Crowvus (Crow Master x Corvus)

I didn’t see a connection with this one until my boyfriend pointed out that Corvus means ‘crow’ in Latin. Man, with names like these, who wouldn’t ship these two?

It’s not only that, of course. These two seem very compatible personality-wise. Both are introvert (at least I think Crow Master is an introvert?), but in different ways. Crow Master is playful and warm, while Corvus is level-headed and stoic. He does smile sometimes (at least according to Callum’s Spellbook) and I’m sure he’d appreciate Crow Master’s affection.

4. Grenavos (Gren x Aaravos)

I was very surprised to learn that this ship was a thing, I’ll be honest. I couldn’t understand what actually connected the two, other than both being imprisoned in Viren’s dungeon (well, Aaravos’ prison is in Viren’s dungeon). But then I saw this fanart and it dawned on me - they both have freckles!

As with the other ships in this post, that is obviously not the only thing connecting them. Gren strikes me as a person who likes to be showered in care and affection. And Aaravos? My personal headcanon is that he is a very gentle and affectionate lover! He can be ruthless with his enemies, but protective of his loved ones.
