PSA Shadowheart romance is apparently monogamous, there goes my dream of a 3-way romance for my durge with Shadowheart as a morality pet and Astarion as a murder buddy

(no regrets tho, shit's cute as fuck)

Astarion was surprisingly considerate about this

Whom I DID NOT romance and in fact had to reject twice

Gale I love you and would totally romance you exclusively with a more thematically appropriate character but WHAT THE FUCK

DARK URGE ROMANCE SPOILERS

Because of course this shit is going to interfere with your romance, and in the most dramatic way possible

So at some point in act 2 your murder sidekick Sceleritas Fel will ask you to kill an important plot NPC, and if you refuse to do it

Well

THIS happens

And I have to tell you after the first time your character blacked out and just killed someone this sounds SUPER scary

I immediately went ahead to wake up Shadowheart to tell her everything

But of course it wouldn't be that easy

I've never been so stressed about saving throws in this entire game

SHADOWHEART HAS FAITH IN YOU

OH THANK FUCK

I love her so much T_T

And I love how much pure drama this whole thing provides

Nothing's better than bonding with your gf over your shared experiences of losing your memories and overcoming darkness within you (of course, after you succeed in rolling your saving throws against brutally murdering her)

Also afterwards you get this journal entry

My favorite thing about playing a dark urge is that your companions keep telling you all those terrible secrets about them and your character has a perfect motivation to not even be mad about it

You're just standing here all like "...well, mine is worse"

Fun fact: if you accept eye surgery from Volo his prosthetic eye now shows up on your character and gives you see invisibility

Cons: you have to be absolutely fucking insane to agree to it

More thoughts after finishing bg3:

Dark urge for a first playthrough also turned out to be Fine Actually

In fact, it was pretty amazing

It's not just about being a murderhobo, or resisting being a murderhobo; it's a very strong storyline that is HEAVILY tied with the game's main story, and impacts a lot of the decisions you are making, and your character truly feels like an intended protagonist

And yes you can reject the urge and be a good guy

Yes, it's still very dark. You are not always in control. But it won't screw over your entire good-aligned playthrough or anything. What it does do is provide a great source for inner conflict and angst, and an amazing dramatic conclusion at the end of the game

So as many have guessed already, dark urge is a bhaalspawn

And if you eventually reject your father, OH BOY HE IS NOT HAPPY

As in, he straight up kills you

BUT THEN

WITHERS MY MAN COMES IN AND IS LIKE "LOL NOPE NOT TODAY"

Yes we know you are Jergal

Best boy

Best god

And I also love this line at the very end

Taking back control from the tadpole AND Bhaal feels so satisfying and it really feels like your character's mind has went through hell and they deserve to finally have some peace from all the Horrors
