A friendly little reminder to pleasssse make sure to look up how to care for your crystals.
Improper care of your crystal(s) can result in discoloration, irreparable damage (such as the crystal dissolving). Or worst yet, if you put them in your drinking water, harm to yourself depending on the crystal. As certain crystal can leach toxins and other poisonous materials into your water.
Note: If a crystal does become discolored it does not change the property of the crystals, it'll just look different. 😊

DONT put these crystals in the ☀️ to charge!
Hello 💚 hope you don’t mind me jumping into your ask box for this.
I bought this beautiful aventurine necklace a few years back. Had it packed away for a while but now feel drawn to wear it again.m but I would like to cleanse and charge it first. I know the salt water method for cleansing but was wondering if there were specific ways for this particular stone 💚 😊
Haiiii. The only main thing with Aventurine to avoid is keeping it in direct sunlight, it's not a fan of that.
Unlike some other stones it's fine with a quick dip in water.
For the first time owning a crystal, like when you first buy it or receive it as a gift (this goes for any tool or item you get that you will work with) I always do what I call a full cleansing.
For this I would run it through water or dip it in water, wave it though insense smoke, dip it quickly through or above a candle flame and bury it in salt or the earth over night. Id also do a little prayer if I felt so inclined. While doing this I recommend visualising a bright, cleansing white light surrounding the item just like the water, smoke and salt will. It all helps.
For a quick cleansing you can just use insense smoke, run it under a tap or in a stream if you have one nearby, or again, bury in salt or the earth over night.
Once it's cleansed I'd definitely recommend charging it up, this is basically putting yours, or something else's, energy into the item. Many do this by leaving it out in the moonlight on a full moon, on a windowsill is perfect or outside somewhere safe.
You can also do this by holding it in your hands and concentrating on what you want from it, do you want protection, calming energy, grounding etc...
I also like to meditate with mine sometimes or wear them close to my body to energise them, like in my bra for small crystals or my pocket. But as yours is a necklace that will be good enough.
It doesn't need much special treatment, it's a relatively hardy crystal and a very useful one.
Yours is a beautiful example.
An interesting fact I just learned about amethyst! It is a light-sensitive crystal, so if you keep it in direct light, the color can fade. So if you want to preserve the pigment of your amethyst, make sure to keep it out of direct lighting ☀️💜
Water-sensitive crystals
I see a lot of posts and also books who recommend cleansing your crystals under running water or a water bowl. While this is an amazing way to cleanse, not all crystals are fitted to come in touch with water! Here’s a list of rocky babies who don’t take well to water and what to expect if they come in contact with it:
Will dissolve and/or lose its luster:
🔮Selenite
🔮Calcite
🔮Labradorite
🔮Mica (will flake apart)
🔮Halite
🔮Angelite
🔮Lepidolite
🔮Himalayan salt
🔮Turquoise (unsure whether it dissolves, but it’ll fade)
🔮Obsidian (will break if the water is too hot)
Will rust:
🔮Haematite
🔮Malachite (toxic when it comes in touch with water!!)
🔮Pyrite (pyrite plus water and oxygen forms sulfuric acid!)
.
All in all - really any crystal that is soft/flaky (you can look the hardness up on google, simply by entering “How hard is [stone]”) or has iron in it will dissolve, rust or create a toxic mixture. Always be aware of what your crystal is made of before cleansing them with water. Here are some other ways to cleanse your crystals:
Cleansing methods without water:
🔮Smoke cleanse (don’t use white sage or palo santo, they’re endangered!)
🔮Put them outside in the moonlight (fullmoon works best!)
🔮Kiss them and picture a beam of light to cleanse your crystal (again, make sure it’s not toxic if you put your lips to it)
🔮Put your crystal in a bowl with hematite to eliminate bad energy, then with some clear quartz to charge it all up
🔮Use a singing bowl or music that you deem cleansing
🔮Bury it in a pot of soil
🔮Bind it to a tree
... and many more! These are the simplest, though. I hope they helped.
DISCLAIMER: Assuming all your gems in the first category - dissolving - are larger than your pinky’s nail and thus won’t dissolve completely, I think it’s worth mentioning that all of these changes are purely on the surface. Just because your selenite has lost its reflecting shine and feels less smooth, it doesn’t mean that its powers have faded. Technically, this could be “fixed” if it got tumbled/polished again, but this can be quite expensive, so I’d recommend to just buy a new crystal if you don’t have a super deep connection to it.
Fair winds!

Tell me if I got anything wrong! Will be adding more stones and crystals as I gain them, but these are all the stones and crystals I have so far :)
