Award shows are notoriously unpredictable and so I don’t know how many wins Heated Rivalry will walk away with at the CSAs but I do feel pretty certain of one: Jenny Lewis and Sara Kay for Best Achievement in Casting, Fiction.

Imagine plucking two men out of their restaurant jobs and they happen to have so much talent, charm, and chemistry that they become megastars within a year?

Yeah, I feel pretty sure that the two people who discovered Hudson and Connor will be taking home the casting award!

Faf du Plessis did not seem grumpy at missing out on any CSA awards, but deep down, he must have felt just a little bit bitter ...

Despite all of this reasoning, I still feel for Proteas Test and T20 captain Faf du Plessis, who should have been on the podium more than just once when asked to hand out the “International Newcomer of the Year” award to left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj.

In my mind, and listening to many whispers around Kyalami’s Theatre on the Track auditorium, others too felt that Du Plessis deserved greater recognition.

In many ways, Du Plessis has been the fulcrum for the dramatic turnaround in fortunes of the Proteas over the past 12 months. I remember last year’s awards function being a particularly drab affair due to the Proteas not actually having much to celebrate.

The success could not only be measured in pure numbers, but also the quality of cricket that the Proteas produced and the supreme team spirit and camaraderie showed in often trying circumstances.

The conspiracy theorist within me ventured into murky waters with perhaps the drama surrounding the “Mintgate” issue – when the ICC fined Du Plessis his entire match fee for applying saliva to the ball when eating a mint – being the reason for not celebrating the skipper’s achievements more.

Taking nothing away from De Kock’s achievements, but Du Plessis is my “SA Cricketer of the Year”.

De Kock headlines Nominations List

PROTEAS wicketkeeper-batsman, Quinton de Kock, leads the nominations for the 2016/17 Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards. The gala event to honour South Africa’s top performing cricketers over the past year will take place on 13 May 2017 at the Kyalami Theatre on the Track.

De Kock has been nominated in the following categories: SA Cricketer of the Year, Standard Bank Test Cricketer of the Year, and Standard Bank ODI Cricketer of the Year as well as the KFC Award of Excellence. In addition, he has secured his peers’ vote as SA Players’ Player of the Year and could be a contender for SA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year.

CSA Awards Highlight NYC Middle School Principals

Erica Zigelman has been the principal of MS322: The Renaissance Leadership Academy in New York City, New York, since its inception in 2005. In her almost four decades in education, including 15 years as a middle school principal, Ms. Zigelman has been the recipient of many awards and accolades for enhancing student interest and curriculum development. In 2019, she received a Tier One CSA Performance Bonus for Exemplary Progress for her work at MS322, which is the highest bonus a recipient can receive. In 2020, Erica Zigelman won the Outstanding Principal of the Year Award for the Manhattan borough, and was honored as a Distinguished Principal by the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators (CSA). The Outstanding Principal awards were given to one outstanding middle school principal in each of New York’s five boroughs. Winners are nominated by members of the Middle School Principal’s Association, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education and the CSA. The awards ceremony took place in March at the MSPA’s annual leadership conference. The CSA also presented the “Lifetime in Education” award to Dr. Philip Composto, superintendent of District 30.
