Yk people talk about how Denji isn’t the brightest but this plan is actually pretty solid
I feel like something may have been lost in the English translation.
Granted, I can’t read Japanese (yet, I’m planning to learn), but I can compare the English translation directly to the French one.
The French version has the Fall Devil use a lot of complicated jargon, and has her speak in a somewhat pompous way. Denji being like “nothing you say makes sense” suddenly makes a lot of sense. It was a nuance I didn’t catch in the English version. If the fancy language hasn’t been added by the French translation, that is.
Fun fact:
Corn dogs are not a thing in France (which may give the Fall Devil another reason to call Denji stupid, lol).
In the French translation, the translators even resorted to describing what a corn dog is (sugary sausage donut) and then had Denji call it a “French dog”, because if anything, the French are at least familiar with what a hot dog is.
Who gave Denji blood in 126?
I saw some theories around and I do not think it is that deep. Imo, it’s Yoshida, though I guess I could be wrong, who knows. Moment in question:
Argument for it not being Yoshida: The identity of the person is willingly being obstructed here, why do that if he knew we all would suspect Yoshida anyway? It’s not like what he’s saying or doing is going against what we already know of his motive. I personally doubt it’s a red herring, to me the scene just flows well framed that way ambiance wise, and if everyone collectively thinks of Yoshida then like, might as well just be him imo.
Why we believe/know it’s a “he”: He’s in the school uniform, most well visible by the hem of the sleeve. So that narrows it down quite a bit, what are guys in Denji’s school we know of, one that would do this? There are only a few characters to begin with, but the one that straight away makes perfect sense is Yoshida. Though, since we only see lower legs and hand, we can’t really see body type at all.
I’ve seen it argued that it’s Haruka. It’d be a weird character shift if Haruka suddenly showed up on a devil fighting ground, be unaffected from the whole general falling thing, super chill, approach Chainsaw Man and give him blood like it’s nothing. But mostly, our best clue is: shoes
Shoes thus far in the manga have been incredibly consistent. The shoes here are white sneakers. Yoshida wears white sneakers both in part 1 and 2
Haruka, meanwhile, has always had black shoes.
But, oh? What’s this, on the left?
If anything, y’all should be suspecting brobeni
Edit: It’s been noticed that in japanese the speech manner the stranger used isn’t Yoshida’s so it’s very unlikely to be Yoshida. Brobeni???!!
Zero IQ is unbeatable when it comes to mental attacks And Denji knows it well
I know there is a ~fight to the death~ happening as they speak and Falling Devil hits him with the trauma ray which is sorta distracting, but I think it’s no coincidence that Denji doesn’t question her motive to target Asa Mitaka specifically. For one, he’s pretty used to the ones he loves being targets or in danger so I guess it musn’t seem that weird to him. But furthermore, in this chapter we 100% get the explicit confirmation that Denji represses his trauma and avoids thinking about it at all cost.
So to me, what this all points towards is that Denji is actively avoiding even just entertaining the thought that Asa might not be all normal or innocent, perhaps a Reze 2.0. Ignoring Asa’s warnings about staying away from her, immediately writing off Asa/Yoru’s “Denji spinal cord sword”, and now brushing off how Asa is being specifically targeted by a Devil that wants to send her to hell? The boy is in denial.
