We finally have our draft proposal complete and have sent it through to Anna. Hopefully she will be able to give us feedback next Tuesday or even before then. Once we have feedback from her I will continue to design/put together our proposal on Adobe Illustrator. It’s currently week 10, Nicaela and I are feeling confident with where we are up to on this particular project. I personally think we are ahead of where we need to be which I’m pleased about. We will still continue working on this proposal and try perfect it before submission on 31st of May. We haven’t had any problems with the design/planning process so far but have both saved our work on eachothers laptops, just in case either one of our laptops crash before submission.

Tansmedia Timeline for Semester

Week 1-3:

Museum visits to observe weird and wonderful

Research into ideas relevant to what we want to do

Week 4-6:

Outlining Proposal, Objectives to meet

Pitch our idea to the Museum staff/class

Deliver first submission worth 30% of grade

Prototyping

Week 7-10:

Delivering Ideas/Project to the class/museum and hope for more constructive criticism  

Visit Museum (Ongoing Research)

Finalising Project and giving ourselves time for things that could go wrong throughout the process of the assignment

Week 11-12:

PDF document with our final outcomes for the project. The final outcome of this project will come from the ideas/researching Nicaela and I have put together as a team.

Constructed proposal submitted for our final 70% of our grade.

Transmedia Narratives Research for project..

While researching for our project we came across several different examples online that are similar to our ideas that we think could help to develop our proposal. The first piece I looked into was Under the Dome, displayed at a Westfield shopping centre. This particular exhibition was a four minute animated musical piece which over that period of time let the audience experience a 19th century toymakers workshop. During this more characters are added to the above dome such as sugar plum fairies, toy soldiers and ginger bread men. Westfield collaborated with Obscura Digital who had previously worked alongside the Sydney Opera House. I thought this was definitely a piece worth researching into as we wanted to incorporate projection mapping but instead of being controlled by the music we would have it controlled by the puzzles that the children are completing. Keeping in mind that the more detailed we make our designs the more distracted the children will become from the main purpose of our project which is to educate them on NZ sea life.

We also found another exhibition that was displayed in Singapore Science Centre which was called E3. This particular exhibition was set up to give the viewers a, “Fully immersive experience.” While working with Panasonic to setup/construct this exhibition they had to take into consideration cost, equipment failure, space available and equipment being damaged. I found these aspects of the exhibition related well to what we are working on as it pointed out the technical side of the project rather than just making it look aesthetically appealing to children. After having feedback from our presentation, simple is going to be much more effective (less is more). The difference between our project and E3 is the target audience, this means hygiene will be a big factor as well as any interactive part. Also children are prone to breaking most objects they can get their hands on.

Revising the narrative

After revising the project, it seemed we needed a change in the overall purpose behind the story. Our original theme of discovery and appreciating your surroundings didn’t have a strong enough presence and felt like an afterthought. We knew something was missing and we had found the answer.

Creating in the physical world through a digital narrative became the new underlying theme and we felt it worked perfectly with our narrative. This also lead into the inclusion of makerspaces as it fit both with the underlying theme and the channels we had chosen. Hazel has an interest in makerspaces as she is a crafter and is eager to learn about upcoming technologies.

The prints need slight adjustments

We collected our new evoloutions of Leif and had worries about whether the prints would work in the real world. The third evolution looked really cool however it was slightly wobbly when standing. I am probably most happy with this design. I love how he came out even though we were worried about the shape of his legs and arms. 

The fourth evolution is one that needs the most work, the legs are too close togther and are too in the center which means he doesnt stand properly. The legs are also uneven, which doesnt help with trying to get him how to stand. Im glad we were able to even out the small kinks now and have enough time to refine the to a place where we are happy with.
