A classic from the past. #Cubby20
Cubby 20 Update: The Cubby's 20th birthday fast approaches, and we're joyful to announce that Cubby Control Records is on schedule to release not just one but *two* brand-new, never-before-heard albums from The Cubby Creatures, all before 2017 moseys into the history books!
First, of course, will come the longest-gestated rock opera in the history of music--JESUS CHRIST, YOU'RE CRAZY--coming at last in its full glory, with the Cubby Creatures' original songs brought together with K.M. Soehnlein's narration of the post-ironic parable, accompanied by ambient audio pieces by That Hideous Strength, Squelchy, Snitch, Jason Gonzales, and Alec Way...all with fresh visual art from the Cubby collective. It's a long-awaited labor of love finally coming to fruition, and we hope it'll transport you into a prolonged state of revelatory ecstasy if not altering your worldview altogether.
Second up, slated for a late-year release corresponding to the 20th anniversary of the Cubby Creatures' premiere performance (at Artists' Television Access on December 7, 1997) Cubby Control Records will be releasing a collection of Cubby Creatures rarities--a trove of previously unreleased recordings, forgotten gems, jams, and jangles culled from rehearsal-space recordings, studio sessions, and home recordings. We've been unearthing these cassettes all winter and spring and are super excited to share these lost treasures with all our friends!
Additionally, we are currently collecting items for a 20th anniversary edition of the Cubby Missalette (whose first issue's publication, in August 1997, marked the official public launch of The Cubby). We'll have more on this later, but feel free to PM Jol Devitro or Brian Weaver if you're interested in submitting. :P
Thank you for your attention, and may the Cubby envelop you always!
“Last Chance” was to be the last recorded song The Cubby Creatures would officially release before they split up. The song was originally included on the Embryo 4: Homemade Music by Bay Area Musicians compilation. It is available for streaming for the first time in honor of The Cubby Creatures’ 20-year anniversary. Throughout 2017 Cubby Control Records will be unveiling some long forgotten, and in some cases, never released gems from the Cubby Creatures archives. Embryo artwork by Andrew Goldfarb.
It was 20 years ago this year The Cubby Creatures began their career, releasing the first Missalettes and playing their first show at Artists' Television Access. In honor of the 20-year anniversary, we'll be digging through the archives and unveiling some long forgotten, and in some cases, never released gems. To start off, have a listen to them perform on KALX in August, 1999
Cubby Control Records update
January 27, 2016: A new year means new music from Cubby Control Records. Not as much was released in 2015 as intended, but it was still a good year with the releases of REPTIEL's Audio Vérité Series: FP 3 free digital download; REPTIEL's Audio Vérité Series: FPs 1-3 cassette; the Last Snowman CD-R by Gnom i Snegovik; and of course REPTIEL's Hobbitozz ... A Land That Never Was on CD and the Songs from Hobbitozz cassette released in conjunction with Wiener Records. In 2016 we should finally see the release of Spacegod Pills by The Druggles; Jesus Christ, You're Crazy by The Cubby Creatures; and Mystirios Anruf by Gnom i Snegovik. And maybe if I'm really ambitious, I'll initiate the next Cubby Preachers: #6. Also in the works, A Hobbitozz Web site which will include artwork from Bay Area artists depicting individual songs from the album, lyrics, and more insight into the story. AND, REPTIEL is in the studio recording the follow-up to Hobbitozz, (The Platnet of) Progkp, as is Aero Dualities, recording their debut album. Well, those are the known knowns and the known unknowns. But there are also unknown unknowns. In other words, who knows what else may come across my plate. Tomorrow never knows and time will tell, but there's always now to begin your life's masterpiece. --Brian
