Day 8 is some cucuios in Offbeat! They’re essentially messengers between the physical and spirit realms and one of the few creatures able to naturally travel between them, so they have some weird anatomy/biology stuff going on.

Cucuio are tiny, birdlike creatures which are common in both realms. Despite their abundance, not a whole lot is known about them, as they’re intelligent and powerful creatures which usually evade capture. They are bold and sometimes approach sentients directly; there are even stories of them guiding lost travelers through the dark with their bioluminescent features.

They feed on both flying insects and precious metals, the latter of which manifests in their brilliant plumage. Most seem to have an affinity for silver or gold, though other varieties (as well as “hybrid” patterns) have been reported. How and why they are able to digest metal is not currently understood. They have a jarringly bright pair of eyes on the sides of their bodies, also with unknown purpose, though they vaguely resemble the eyes of toyol.
