Back in the summer of 2006, my favorite band in the world, the Ging Nang Boyz, came to visit California and asked me to guide them around. Me and Adam (of Biguglyrobot comics) actually jumped up and down on his bed, overflowing with excitement and anticipation, after receiving a phone call from them about the trip.
While they were here we took them to 924 Gilman to see This Is My Fist play, and when 3 of the 6 bands on the bill ended up cancelling, they were able to play a short 3-song set. It was a real treat to see. The next night, while hanging out, my friend Cooper casually mentioned the cuddle shows we'd have at our practice space, and the band said they'd love to play one. I had thought about asking them to play a show, but didn't wanna weird them out by being too much of a fanboy, but Cooper here just nonchalantly did what I was too scared to try. We threw together a show for the next night and it ended up being pretty much the best night ever.
I sat on the footage of this show for over a decade, but after rediscovering it a few weeks ago I decided to cut it together and share it with all y'all. Over the course of one 5 minute long song, the Ging Nang Boyz broke half of our equipment and blew all of our minds. I couldn't help but smile while watching this, and I hope you enjoy it too! Maybe I'll get around to cutting up the rest of their set someday...
A year later they let me put out a 12" EP for them, Phat 'n' Phunky's first ever vinyl release!
