just rewatched Spoony's LP of Phantasmagoria 2, and tbh I think it would've been a more interesting game if it contained gameplay you played as someone other than Curtis--Jocilyn, Trevor, Dr. Harburg, and/or Blob--trying to save Curtis as he falls under the Hecatomb's influence.
partially because then the puzzles could be mostly social ones--figuring out what to say and piecing together what's going on with him--rather than the clunky "click an object on another object and get a password from an unrelated file" stuff we get in the actual game.
(hell, the puzzles could take different forms depending on who you're playing! I'm not sure about what Jocilyn's puzzles might be like--we don't get to know much about her other than her willingness to stand up for herself. but Dr. Harburg's puzzles could be in a therapeutic context--meaning that the player would have to act in a way appropriate to a therapist, letting him come around to things at his own pace. Trevor's puzzles could incorporate the hacking and social engineering he does in canon. Blob's could center around observing Curtis' habits and the objects in his house--and the struggle to interpret what he says when she's a rat with a vocabulary of like 80 words, most of which are things like "come here," "good girl," "treat," and so forth.)
and partially because frankly Curtis' actor did not do so well when he was just reacting to things on his own, but his performance sharply improved when around the aforementioned four characters.
