anyway meet Kasha
Just remembered i have an animals tag so meet my dog.
This is Josh. He's been with me for just over a year now. He's extremely anxious about humans (especially men) but absolutely loves dogs and cats, so i think he'll fit in well on tumblr.
Kasha decided to lay on my back and ass.
Ridiculous sweetness
Prompt fill, Patches comforting Scalpel. Ended up with 3235 words.
Most people, upon noticing a lanky bundle of scales curled up on the couch and growling at anyone who got near, would respond by walking the other way. Usually very quickly, if they recognized Scalpel's irritably lashing tail. True, she wasn't that violent towards people who hadn't earned it, but who knew what qualified as 'earning it' when she was in this mood?
Patches, of course, was not 'most people'. He was short, adorable people whose species came from a planet with no predators that even considered eating them. As a result, he had not been created with a reasonable amount of self-preservation instinct as regarded other people.
Besides, Scalpel had, more than once, killed people to protect him. Wide paw-pads tapped the floor as he hopped closer, deliberately moving in that bouncing way that always seemed to get her attention, never mind that it was because it reminded her of a species whose name translated to "fast snack" on her home planet.
"Scalpel, why are you intimidating everybody who tries to come in here?" he cooed, straightening himself up enough to look down at the bundle of scales, and reached to place a hand on her shoulder- And paused in confusion -and more than a little concern- when the armor under his hand shifted and revealed a milky fluid underneath. That... was not normal. Right?
Scalpel rumbled warningly in the back of her throat, but didn't try to get rid of Patches- it wouldn't work. He was too stubborn. She didn't really feel like talking, but... okay, yes, he was doing that 'oh no what happened' expression again, wide worried eyes and all. She was going to have to explain.
Sighing softly, Scalpel uncurled a bit and pushed herself up to look at him, at least as closely as she could with the lenses of her eyes fogged over. "Not happy. Fine. But not happy." she grumbled, wincing slightly as something in her back popped, and did not at all lean into the (clawed!!) hand on her shoulder. Not in the slightest. She was fine, this was normal, she could do this.
"Yeah, okay, normally I'd trust you on this sort of thing, but... there are pieces of you coming off of your body. That seems... not healthy." Patches commented, resisting the urge to pull his hand away and make a face at having the unknown fluid seeping against his pawpad, and instead gripped the scale tighter to flex it. "Seriously, this-"He was cut off by the plating, which had formerly just been loose, popping off into his hand.
Okay, she should probably explain before Patches freaked out. He was difficult to calm if he was genuinely concerned about someone. "Ahh... yeah. Tha's fine. Tryin' t' molt. Those're s'posed t' come off, but they're stickin' wrong. Prob'ly too thick- wind'd normally wear'm down wi' sandstorms." Scalpel muttered, flipping over to her other side in order to curl up again, and didn't bother trying to hide the wriggle against the couch as she did. There wasn't anything on this ship that was any good to grind against! (Blackspark, no, stop being in her brain with snarky comments, this was not the time)
(come to think of it, though, all those spines)
(no)
(better not)
Patches' clamped ears slowly perked a bit at the explanation of why he did not need to be concerned about his friend coming apart in his hands, but he still didn't look happy. Scalpel was clearly uncomfortable, and maybe she was technically fine, but this still wasn't okay! "All right, then- come here." he declared, stuffing the piece of loose plating into his pouch in case it was needed later, and unceremoniously reached out and picked Scalpel up.
Which felt a bit like picking up a very heavy snake- difficult to gather everything up.
Scalpel gave a startled little hiss at being lifted, all four limbs splaying out in all directions in an attempt to stabilize herself, but didn't try to resist. Patches was- well, he was short and round, so awkward to be carried by, but he was strong. And too stubborn to bother trying to get away from.
Instead of attempting to escape, Scalpel just grumbled unhappily and braced both hands on the base of Patches' tail for support, her tail wrapping around him- even though it was very unlikely that he was actually going to drop her. He didn't do that with people.
Now wearing a heavily armored reptile like a feather boa, Patches trotted off out of the room, carefully moderating his normally-bouncy steps so he didn't jostle her too much. She didn't much like being bounced around by anything, it tended to make her dig her claws into things. "Okay- now, I do know some things about reptiles. And I'm pretty sure you wouldn't normally do this, 'cos there's not much water on your home at all, but I think more humidity might help. And maybe just... start prying things off? Whatever doesn't hurt more than usual."
"...might be worth a try. Usually'd have rough stones t' rub on a bit, splits things open, but nothin' on this damned ship is rough enough. Except a few people who I am not going to rub all over. An' I'm gonna need that piece you got." Scalpel muttered, shifting herself around a bit so she could see where they were going, and perked up a bit when she realized they were headed for the medbay showers. Ooh. Okay, yeah, probably a good idea.
"Yeah, I suppose that might not be a great plan. I mean, you can rub on me, I'm not gonna take it as anything, but I'm not really very rough. And Blackspark- well, he'd help, but... lots of jokes. So many jokes." Patches chuckled, bypassing the main shower area and heading straight for the private stalls at the back, and shut the door of one behind them both. "There. Okay- you can stop snarling at people, nobody's around to laugh. And, uh- what are you gonna do with the scale? Oh, no, wait, don't tell me, you're from a desert, you're-"
"-gonna eat it." Scalpel finished, reluctantly unwinding herself from Patches' shoulders, but just draped herself across the little bench up against the wall instead of trying to stand up. The intricate joints in her leg plating were not being cooperative. She could walk, yes, but she did not at all want to. "Too much moisture to waste. That or give it to the babies, an' there's no babies on here I can feed scales to."
"Yeah, I think th' Twi'lek moms would probably complain about that." Patches commented, not at all fazed by the idea -some groups of his people ate their dead, who was he to judge- and deciding to just focus on helping. He had to stretch to reach the knobs, as someone had clearly built this shower for people who were much taller than him, but he got the water turned on and running hot before he offered the piece of plating he'd removed.
Clearly working out some of her irritation on the piece of scale, Scalpel bit into the chunk of armor as if it was alive and trying to escape, the normally-durable plating flaking off under her teeth as she pulled at it. Her people needed strong, flexible plating to resist the sandstorms and predators of their homeworld, so they had to shed their scales whenever they became too worn and brittle. Evidently, without sand regularly being blown against them, said scales thickened much more than usual and became stiff more easily. Tasted different, too- more resistant to biting.
But, oh, why hadn't she thought of the showers sooner? Dropping the scale with an unabashed moan of delight as the water started to soak in, Scalpel arched her back against the spray, armor flaring out in what would have been an aggressive gesture if it hadn't looked like she was melting a bit.
"There we go- that looks much better. Come on- let's see." Patches cooed, plucking gently at the arm plating below where the first piece had come off, and pried the next piece away with much more ease than before. "There we go! That seems- okay, no, honestly, pieces of you are coming off and there is weird-smelling stuff underneath, but this seems- about as normal as possible, given the situation. I assume this stuff is supposed to help loosen the old plating so it comes off?" he asked, then paused, tilted his head slightly, and grinned when Scalpel didn't respond. Apparently she was feeling a bit too nice to really answer.
Oh well.
"Okay- let's get the rest of this off you. Here-" he purred, hopping up onto the bench in front of her, and blinked in surprise when Scalpel responded by slinking forwards and wrapping herself around him.
Huh.
Okay, yeah, this was fine. More than fine, actually, Scalpel was purring. And not talking, but... that was probably okay, right? Yeah, that was probably fine.Purring right back up at her, Patches settled in and began to run his hands down her back, claws out, digging his clawtips into any bits of plating that seemed loose.
It took a little while, but, as the water began to loosen them, some of the smaller plates down her spine popped off of their own accord. Then the larger ones, one at a time, clunking dully as they joined the growing pile. The scales underneath were soft and coated in that same milky fluid, which Patches had decided smelled like overly damp bugs, and Scalpel made some very interesting purring noises when he ran his claws (lightly) over those- evidently they were soft enough that she could feel the touches more firmly than usual. Which, hm- could have been interesting if she wasn't so cranky. But- not now.
Once her back was clean, Patches caught Scalpel's lazily swishing tail in one hand, easily popping a couple of plates off, then let go of it as the rest begun to fall away- apparently it only took a few coming off to let the water underneath.
Scalpel probably should have been alarmed by how easily she drifted off. She wasn't even falling asleep, just... unfocusing, eyes shutting, every bit of input other than touch fading away. It... could have been alarming, honestly, but...
Patches was here.
Patches, who smelled like warm fur and medbay antiseptic and somehow still like snow after months away, who gladly let one of his solar system's most dangerous predators curl around him and purr and knead on his back, who unquestioningly helped an upset friend despite being repeatedly growled at. Patches wouldn't hurt her, wouldn't let anyone else hurt her, would kill for her, had killed for her. Loved her, really, though not in the romantic sense of the word. Loved her unconditionally, unquestioningly, even if she couldn't quite manage that in return.
So sweet.
Too sweet to be afraid of.So she let herself drift, let Patches do whatever he wanted, flared whatever plating he touched to make it come off more easily. And she didn't move, didn't speak- just groaned happily down at him and let herself enjoy.
"Okay- that's your whole back. Most of your sides, too. So- gotta get your stomach loose. Let's see... these might be on a bit better. Ah- I'll just try-" Patches leaned back a bit further and brought one hindpaw up, blunt claws made for gaining traction scratching against her belly scales, and kicked lightly- just to see if it would work. It did, a smaller midsection scale popped off, but- but Scalpel crooned and tightened her grip around his frame, eyes snapping open at the sensation. "Uh- you okay? I can do something other than that, if you want." Patches offered, though with his claws still dug into a gap in her plating, and attempted to pull his foot away- which only tugged harder on the gap he'd found.
"...yeah, fine. Actually... y'know what? You... okay, gonna be honest. You've seen th' li'l males on m' home planet, right? Wriggly, chirpy, li'l cute things. Actually- know you've done more than seen, you've fucked a few. Heh. That... that thing they do? The wrigglin'? 's pretty much species-wide. Never met one who doesn' like bein' pinned. Never met a female doesn't like pinnin' a partner. Sooo..." Scalpel purred, propping herself up with her elbows on Patches' shoulders, and actually winked at him. "You can keep doin' that. Might get interestin'. Somehow I doubt you mind, sweet li'l thing. Love t' try you out."
Slightly confused by the change in her behavior, Patches tilted his head and blinked, then shrugged, smiled, and twitched his foot again. "Ah- oxytocin is a lovely substance, isn't it? You almost look high, wow- you've needed this, huh? Y'know, my people, we shed- not quite as impressive as this, but we shed our fur when it gets a bit warmer. An' we usually pile up on each other for it, just to groom, to get all the hard spots- I'll wager you're supposed t' be doing the same thing. I don't know what people with scales do, though- what, polish each other? I- oh dear, oh, well, there are many ways to interpret that, aren't there?
"Anyway- look, we both know I have absolutely no complaints about sex with people I like, but I think you're kind of blissed out right now. Uh- very blissed out, lots of hormones. And I think we have slightly different ideas about how sex affects a relationship. So- you let me finish this, all right? And then pet you a bit until you're just relaxed, then, if you still wanna, you let me know. I will quite happily let you pin me down, that sounds very nice."
Scalpel blinked a couple of times, then sighed, shrugged, and patted Patches' back, going limp against him again. "Yeah... okay. Prob'ly a good idea. I do feel... yeah, bit... bit foggy. 's okay, though." she muttered, shifting a bit to the side so he could better reach her stomach. "Still gonn' purr at ya."
"Of course. Here- relax." Patches cooed, rubbing at her back with both hands and being sure to scrape at the scales with his claws again, and resumed gently kicking at her stomach with one foot- loosening plates that fell off soon after as the water got under them properly. "Ah- here we are, this works."
Scalpel's purring took on a slightly deeper tone as she curled around Patches again, but she didn't try to act on it- he had a point. She did feel... fuzzy. That was fine, though, everything here was fine, there was just lots of petting and nice feelings and maybe a different kind of rubbing in a little while. Everything was great.
Patches eventually pried the last belly scale loose and tossed it away, then paused for a moment before reaching further down to pull at a few on her outer thigh. The plates on her lower legs and around her face were coming free as they were soaked more thoroughly, but these few weren't giving- mostly because they were too large for the water to get under, nearly the entire length of her upper leg.
The ones on her outer thigh came off without incident, just gentle prying.
Her inner thigh, though? Yes, that earned a few interesting sounds, and one leg twitching firmly against Patches' frame. It was tempting to rub at the newly-revealed soft plating underneath, but, no... no flirting. Not right now, not while Scalpel was still all melted. Maybe later.
Those turned out to be almost the last scales that had to be removed, and certainly the last large ones. The rest were falling off as the water got further under her plating, as Scalpel squirmed idly against Patches and against the wall. About the only thing that didn't look right was- hm, okay, her eyes still looked odd.
Leaning back, Patches caught her chin gently in one hand and tilted her head to get a look at the lenses of her eyes, then slowly lifted his other hand and lightly moved a fingertip to-
He was expecting her to blink, but she didn't. Didn't even seem to be putting any effort into not blinking, either, she just sat still and let him touch- hm, but that wasn't her eye, was it? That was the protective scale over her eye, which was loose, slid under his touch, and stuck to his fingertip. Stuck enough that, when he pulled his hand away, it came with him and freed a gush of the white liquid that had been covering her eye.
Ears perking up in a rather adorable 'oh!' gesture, Patches carefully repeated the scale removal with her other eye, smiling happily as Scalpel's eyes fixed clearly on him for the first time. "Ah- there we go! That's much better. Here, now- let me finish with this, and let me know how you're feeling as regards pinning me to things."
Scalpel fluffed herself up as much as was possible for a lanky being like herself, her last few bits of intact plating flaring oddly wide as Patches rubbed firmly down her back with both hands, and crooned happily down at him. "Ahh, yeah- that is nice." she purred, then bit her lip and glanced away, tail curling up around herself at the mention of... yeah. Embarrassing."No, okay, that... that would have been hormones. Think I might as well... not."
"Ah, I get it- hormones are fun sometimes." Patches hummed, gently patting her shoulder, then backed up enough to shake himself more-or-less free of the loosening fluid. "There we are- that looks much better. Here- stretch out. There's a few scales left along your spine."
Scalpel rumbled something unhappy, but stretched out along the bench, bracing her feet on the floor in order to slowly rub her front against the bench as Patches shifted around. "Bein' stupid." she muttered, tail lashing unhappily, and only settled when those gentle paws landed on her back again. "Stupid hormones." she grumbled, tensing briefly, but slowly relaxed again when Patches started rubbing along her spine.
After a moment or two of silence, she turned her head slightly to look up at him, tail curling around to wrap around his waist. "Meant it, though. You know I did. Y' sweet li'l fluff. Makin' me care about you." she muttered, then flipped over and curled around Patches, pushing her face into his shoulder so she didn't have to think too hard about what she was attempting to express. "Aw. C'mon now- you know I'm not gonna laugh, I'm not gonna make fun of you for having emotions. I like emotions. It's okay- I promise. Love you, Scalpel." Patches cooed, running both hands down her spine and gently plucking a final scale off, then gathered her close with both arms.
"Love you."
He wasn't expecting an answer.
But Scalpel couldn't exactly ignore that, could she?
She just... didn't have to take her face out of his shoulder to talk, even if it did get some floof in her mouth.
"Love y' too."
It felt silly, but... Patches' happy coo and soft little wiggle was worth it. Scalpel smiled against his fluffy shoulder, kneading her claws softly on his back, and tried very hard not to feel ridiculous.Silly fluffy creature. Giving her emotions.
