Prairie doges. . I really like the first photo. It kind of gets the imagination going and looks almost human, in a way. . I'd have liked more separation from the background but I neither had the option of a wider aperture or to ask them to take several steps forward. . Until recently, I'd only ever seen them in the zoo as a child. Now I'm seeing them every day. . Also, I went and sat in the pond where the otters are for several hours this afternoon, but no luck. I saw the beaver, pass by a few times and also got myself almost hypothermic. I didn't fully realize untill I tried to stand up from the water. All good now, though. And actually, I think it's perfectly fine, and maybe even beneficial to get your body temperature too low. The dangers are getting to a point where you are not able to get yourself warm again. . Anyway, back to the otters. I tried hiding closer to where I saw them last time. The challenge is always trying to balance giving yourself the best chance of seeing an animal and not scaring it off with being as close as you'd like for the sake of the photo. Ideally also maintaining the chance for a nice composition with good lighting and a nice background. More often than not, I just see something interesting that I didn't have pre-planned in my mind and am lucky to catch a shot. Like these photos were just taken out my front door in the morning. . Well, I'm not sure if the otters just didn't pass by today or if I scared them off. In all my visits to this spot, I have maybe seen them half and each visit has been several hours. I don't tend to be that systematic about it, I don't know if you really can be... Too much chance involved. I'll try at least once more hiding in the closer spot and then probably if I'm not successful, choose somewhere a little further away. . . . #prairiedog #prairiedoglover #prairiedogsofinstagram #prairiedogs #cuteanimalshot #cuteanimal #cuteanimals #animals #wildlife #critters #montanawildlife #wildlifephotograpy (at Troy, Montana) https://www.instagram.com/p/COZWyOgg0Y6/?igshid=1tkef7ppp6nxe
