“Oh HAY there! My name is Duncan. Duncan Ace Freckleface to be precise. I’m a big boy, and I eat a LOT of hay. Why am I so big, you ask? Well friends, let me tell you a secret. Holstein cattle are one of the main breeds exploited by the dairy industry. Males like me, however, don’t produce milk, so we are killed when we are babies for veal or cheap hamburger. That’s why you never see Holsteins as big as me unless you’re at a sanctuary...because you never see adult males... we typically aren’t allowed to survive to adulthood. I’m three years old now, about 7 feet tall, STILL growing, and always hungry! I have two very important jobs at the sanctuary: 1. To teach humans how awesome cows are and how they can help us. 2. To be a cow, do cow things, and enjoy my life. You can help by donating a bale of hay ($20 on Venmo @blackberrycreeksanctuary) for me to munch on this month AND by choosing plant-based alternatives instead of purchasing meat and dairy products so cow people like me aren’t harmed.
