Assumptions of maleness in gaming spaces (and others as well) are, more than just mistakes, active enforcement of the norm.
It's not just that people don't consider that the person they're talking to could be a woman, it's that they would rather she not be. It's a tacit way to push out deviants from the norm, by assuming they already fit it, based on the intuitive understanding that this incorrect assumption causes its target discomfort.
In a real sense, the intended targets of dudebro language are women—trans women especially.
