i did lie about being a mileven, but they all stopped replying once they realized they were wrong. all i did was make a post asking if they think it would happen and saying id love to discuss, but like, it got deleted and people were hatin left and right.

so… reddit (for some reason) recommended me some posts and… oh boy.

one gay ship in a show and suddenly they’re spiraling like it’s the end of days. it’s honestly hilarious.

they ignore plain, on-screen facts about the story — about volume 1 especially — and somehow we’re the delusional ones? lmfao okay.

fact: it’s literally one gay ship in a series overflowing with male friendships.

mike / dustin / lucas / will = the embodiment of platonic boy friendship. we’ve seen seasons of it.

but when the show uses soundtrack, framing, camera language, dialogue cues, and performance choices to differentiate mike & will from the others — to make their scenes intimate, charged, emotional in a way mileven never got — suddenly that’s “reaching”?

and here’s my favorite:

they’re trying to use the media literacy excuse back at us lmfaooooooo

they really think they’re being clever, but they’re ignoring the most basic narrative parallels in the show. it’s actually hilarious because… they’re proving our point.

mike was literally in will’s film reel. not symbolically. not vaguely. physically embedded into will’s emotional core and identity through a metaphor about memory, connection, and unconditional love. meanwhile robin’s tammy monologue was about a crush she misread.

the comparison isn’t comparable.

will literally saved mike’s life through accepting his love for him — not running from it. that scene is framed romantically because it is romantic.

what’s even funnier is that they pretend queer experiences are one-size-fits-all, as if robin’s journey is the universal template and anything that doesn’t match it must not be “real.”

which is… ironically… the definition of bad media literacy.

with volume 1 out, we all saw the shift happen in real time. people didn’t want to see byler until the show made them see it — and suddenly the milevens are jumping ship, the ga is rooting for will, and the narrative makes sense to them for the first time.

the only people still refusing to root for will are just… homophobic. sorry (not really). you can dress it up however you want, but if you hate a character whose entire arc is grief, longing, loyalty, and quiet bravery — for no real reason — that’s not a writing issue. that’s bias.

they can’t even say “will is not an interesting character” anymore because volume 1 disproved that on every imaginable level. can’t wait for their byler endgame tantrums.

media literacy isn’t dead. they’re just determined to fail the class.
