Better late than never! The first of my two art prompts for the @codywanreversebang. I was lucky enough to work with two amazing writers for this art piece, @robinasnyder and @senjuside. Go check out their fics on AO3! 

Original Prompt Summary:

Everyone in the Core knows the Kamino Manufacturing adverts. They flash neon any place someone with too many credits and too few scruples exist: Meet the Clones; 3,000,000 individuals at your command. 

The one where Obi-Wan acquires a clone named Cody. If only Cody was anything close to how the clones are marketed: obedient, respectful. Not determined to start a one-man crusade to overthrow his makers. Unfortunately, Cody might be the most stubborn man in the galaxy.

The blade pressed against his throat as he steps through the door is almost a relief.

“Hello there.” The voice is somewhere to his right, cast in shadows and so painfully polite that reflexive guilt twists in Cody’s stomach at having dropped by uninvited and without a gift. The stranger continues, undeterred as if a stranger stumbling into his home bristling with magic and wild with fear was a common occurrence. “Are you aware you’re bleeding on my floor? I had just mopped.”

Cody pauses, blinks, swallows against a throat that is tightening around a laugh. “I’m sorry.”

“Polite too,” the voice continues, and Cody had the distinct impression that despite his closeness — the muted heat from the other’s skin pressing against him, the steady line of silver at Cody’s throat — that he wasn’t speaking to him. “Not polite enough to drop the spell, however.”

Cody turns his head as much as he dares, peering into the pooled shadows as best as he can. The man is an assembly of impressions; a flash of bright blue eyes, the curve of a grin, the line of a beard, a glimpse of something dark scrawled over his collarbone. He is taller than Cody, leaning down towards him like a flower turning towards the sun, waiting, expectant.

“It is also not considered polite to hold guests at knife-point.”

The man’s laugh is unexpected, as hoarse and stuttering as a flock of birds startled into flight. He sways with the movement of it, but his hand never shifts from Cody’s neck. He’s at ease with the weapon, not just a tool, but another part of himself, his life in another form. “Is that what you are? A guest?”

“I could be.” Cody keeps his spell curled tight at his side, blinking against the slow rivulets of blood that slip down his cheek like rainwater, the iron coating his lips reminiscent of tears. A hiss greets him, claws scrabbling against stone, and Cody meets the man’s gaze for a moment, blue as bright as the sky, as the delicate lacework of the barrier outside, as a moment that he had deliberately worked to forget. ”I would hope that you would allow me that kindness, after everything?”

“Kindness, my love?” The man murmurs, lingering over the softer sounds of the word, drawing it out into a gentle hiss, and Cody’s cheeks burn despite himself, despite everything. “How neatly I will die for the sake of kindness and all because I am asked so politely.”

The man — no longer a stranger, not truly — drops the spell from his shoulders and it hits the floor with the gentle thump of discarded fabric, pooling into the shadows at his feet.

Cody’s gaze tracks the curve of his smile, the dark mark high on the curve of his cheek before he settles on the other man’s eyes once more. “Hello again, Ben. I’ve missed you.”

“Obi-Wan, my dear,” he corrects, gentle as always, and Cody’s heart aches to see him like this.

Summary:

Obi-wan doesn’t need to look at the knives to know how sharp they are. His gaze focuses instead on the face of the man who he is about to entrust his safety to, the one who is both his partner and opponent in this narrative they had both set on stage and in the relationship they had built outside of it.

And he doesn’t look away when Cody throws the first knife at him.

Here’s my submission for @codywanreversebang!! My partner was @binouchetruc who made this AMAZING art that led to the creation of this fic. The amount of time I’ve spent staring at this art is inmeasurable jhashdjsjds, its so gorgeous aaaaa.
