@chris_christenson73 x @pukassurf post-fire project is even more solid. Chris shaped at @pukassurf's shaping room at the @hurleysurfclub and at the @shaperhouse to keep the ball rolling. Most of the custom orders were shaped on time. Surfboards are being done. #pukas #cxcx #chrischristenson #christensonsurfboards x #pukassurf #hsc #hurleysurfclub #surfboards #postfire #pf #shape #shaping #dss #sansebastian

The Pukas Water Lion by @chris_christenson73 and why he chose the baby squash: "this tail was influenced from one of my shaping heroes, Pat Rawson. I have been attracted by the baby squash tail that he used to do in the 80s and 90s, so this is a little homage to him. It brings two pivot points to the tip of the tail to allow the board to go rail to rail quicker". #pukas #pukassurf #surf #waterlion #chrischristenson #cxcx #surfboard
“No One Lasts Forever” featuring DAVID CRONENBERG ???!
I saw a post on Reddit talking about all the post-hyperpop genres, and i’m pretty sure they controversially listed CRASH as “post-hyperpop pop” which I strangely don’t disagree with? I’ve always kind of categorized it as hyperpop adjacent.
I know people tend to get lost in the niche, but sometimes we need to take a step back and acknowledge the bigger picture. Is CRASH polished pop music? Yes. Is it still experimental? Also yes. People argue over what should and shouldn’t count as hyperpop, but imo micro-culture just makes shit way too complicated.
On one hand, I understand wanting to remain true to a genre’s roots, but at the same time, music genres are meant to be somewhat broad and unclear. “Hyperpop” was coined by Spotify—That’s about as mainstream as you can get, so there’s no use in pretending like the term is niche and sacred.
I think “hyperpop” works as an excellent blanket statement for electronically (vocally or instrumentally) experimental pop music. The “pop” genre in and of itself is eternally evolving alongside society, culture, and politics.
I think pop music is music that follows some sort of formulaic structure that human brains are almost universally pleased with. PC music (in my mind, broadly) is an accurate antonym, so to speak, as it’s structurally and sonically abrasive. Hyperpop is simply a sliding scale of PC to Pop abrasiveness.
Charli has cemented herself as a pillar of hyperpop/club/PC music, either by association or through her own music—which to me earns CRASH some sort of experimental recognition, in the same way that The Cure and Depeche Mode are generally considered honorary goth.
