Seeing your continuous progress of Keith is giving me motivation/insight to attempt the paladin armor myself, as someone who has /never/ made armor or even worked with foam at all. Watching each piece come together is so enlightening, I'm understanding how the shapes work so much better than when I was just trying to puzzle it out on paper and getting so frustrated I nearly cried.
First off, I have cried (a lot) over this costume! It’s easy to get frustrated and discouraged in this hobby— sometimes things just seem to be working against you, or there are growing pains as we push our skills with new techniques and materials. Usually that’s when it’s best to step back for a breather and approach it again later.
That being said, I’m glad my progress statuses have been helpful for you! It’s been a learning process for me along the way, too. 3D work like armor needs a slightly different approach than fabric, but the two are related. Sewing in and of itself is a 3D form so a lot of your understanding of shapes of fabric will help you. It’s really is just a lot of trial and error!
I will hopefully get a chance to write up some tutorials soon about my general approach to patterning armor and construction method. Not flat-out paladin armor, but something general to help others apply some tips to their own processes.
And thank you for your kind words!
