It’s Interesting that as badly received as Schumacher’s two Batman films were (and, yes, admittedly, the writing in both films is sloppy) I prefer this take.
In the Schumacher films, Gotham is a vibrant and chaotic place filled with color, lights and dancing weirdos. Everyone has just gone crazy. Because Gotham is a crazy place and always has been.
Nolan’s Gotham just seems so cold, sterile and horribly minimalist Batman looks like he lives in the house from Parasite here, ffs.
Oddly, I think Joker might have taken more cues from Schumacher than Nolan visually. At least towards the end. Gotham finally *does* look alive at the end of that film. For better or worse.
