CYMPhonic Instrument Drive Starts Today!
Be instrumental in the success of a child in Corona
At the Corona Youth Music Project our vision is that every child has the right to play an instrument in an orchestra to help them develop as human beings and excel in their communities. Please help us put an instrument in the hands of a child in Corona, Queens NY, and to gear a our 4th generation of the Corona Children's Orchestra this fall. All donations are tax-deductible.
This summer, 22 children ages 4 to 6 have started training in the Paper Orchestra program, after being part of our PreOrchestra program for around one year. They are using cardboard violins made by our students and their families to learn posture, care for the instrument and to work as a team with their friends in the orchestra. We now need to fully equip them with real instruments in good condition, so they can soon join the orchestra.
In 2011, we started our first orchestra with 22 students only with the generous help of instrument donors. This fall we are excited to start our third children's orchestra in Corona! Here's what we need:
16 small violin sets (sizes⅛ and ¼).
8 ¾ and full size violin sets
5 student-size violas sets.
3 small upright Bass sets (1/2 to ¾ size).
5 flutes
5 clarinets
Any unused orchestral instrument in good condition you want to put to good use!
Or make a money donation to purchase a new instrument:
One student violin cost around $150
One student viola cost $250
One student bass cost about $1,200
You can either drop an instrument at:
Manhattan Corona Youth Music Project, (c/o Alvaro Rodas) 155 West 68th Street, #1931 New York, NY 10023
Queens Immigrant Movement International (c/o Corona Youth Music Project) 108-59 Roosevelt Avenue Corona, NY 11368
You can also let us know where and when to pick it up.
Or make your tax-deductible money donation online here: www.nucleocorona.org. You can also send a check payable to
Corona Youth Music Project, Inc.
And mail it to:
Corona Youth Music Project, (c/o Alvaro Rodas) 155 West 68th Street, #1931 New York, NY 10023
Our Summer CYMPHonic Instrument Drive 2014, will go through August, so please help now!
The Corona Youth Music Project will follow-up with a thank you letter.
Please note that if you would like to receive tax credit for donations, a letter must be provided with their determined value. Appraisal of the instrument/equipment value by a third party is encouraged for a tax deduction.

Volunteer teach with us this summer!
Come help our students take a bog leap this summer by helping in our Summer Seminario, which will take place from July 8th-20th in Corona. This year the orchestra will prepare an arrangement of Pictures at an Exhibition, and if time allows, we will continue working on the first movement of Capriol Suite, for string orchestra, by Peter Warlock. Sign up for a one-day shift or all 10 days for strings. You can help with either/or both first and second violins, and even violas! Winds will work on Tuesdays and Fridays for 2 hours. Our students will need help in different areas and levels: from technique and tuning, to sight-reading, interpretation and expression.

CYMP's Third PreOrchestra Module starts at PS19Q!
On April 9th we started our 3rd orchestral initiation module with 22 first graders of the School of Performing Arts and Communications at PS19Q, the Marino P. Jeantet School, in Corona.

University of Delaware's Phi Mu Alpha team visits CYMP!
On Saturday January 19th, 16 students from the Phi Mu Alpha fraternity of the University of Delaware spent the day helping our students put together Richard Meyer's arrangement of Dvorak's New World Symphony, 4th Movement. This is the second consecutive year that we receive a Phi Mu Alpha-UD delegation for a one-day seminario. We are making this a tradition!
After 6 hours of work, our students went from barely knowing a few measures, to reading through the whole piece. The day ended with performances by our friends from Delaware and everyone playing New World Symphony together, to show friends and families the result of the day's work.
We are looking forward to next year's Corona-Delaware Seminario!
