Núcleo Corona School Year 2016 ended with three concerts by our three orchestras and pre-orchestra ensembles, including three classes from the PS19Q CASA program!  The “No Frontiers” Children’s Orchestra presented a joint concert at the PS19Q Auditorium with the PS19Q CASA ensembles, including 2nd grade strings, 3rd grade brass and 4th grade woodwinds.  The Corona Children’s Orchestra presented a concert with the Mozart and Vivaldi violin ensembles, and the Corona Youth Orchestra presented a concert with repertoire that included Beethoven Symphony No 1 (1st movement), Copland’s “Down a Country Lane”, Bizet’s “Les Toreadors” and Arturo Márquez’s “Conga del Fuego Nuevo”

The Corona Children's Choir, directed by Eun Lee, participated in a collaboration with the Queensborough Community College choirs last May 7th at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center. Thanks to Professor Steven Dahlke, director of the QBCC Choirs for the invitation and for coming to Corona with his choirs to work with our students!

We are so thrilled to have the Corona Youth Orchestra string section see Orpheus and Mr. Zukerman together at Carnegie Hall!!  What a blessing!

On April 3rd the String Camerata of the Corona Youth Orchestra performed at Immigrant Movement International's 1st Community Assembly on Education, at the Queens Museum. Thanks to the IMI Community Council for the invitation!!

First Corona Schools’ Music Teachers meeting, hosted by Núcleo Corona at the Queens Museum

The first meeting of Corona schools’ music teachers gathered elementary and middle school teachers from schools in Corona, as well as CYMP’s teaching artists to meet each other, and talk about common challenges and opportunities to partner and collaborate.  This meeting was an initiative of CYMP and Ms. Angélica Ortega, music teacher at PS14Q, Fairview in Corona.  

The second meeting will take place this spring, and all music teachers from schools in the area will be invited to attend.

During this Mid-Winter break (2/15/16-2/19/16), the Corona Youth Orchestra mentors were on full task helping their No Frontiers Children’s Orchestra learn and practice Josuweit’s “Thunder Rock”.  This was a perfect way for the to follow up on the first mentoring workshop at the Queens a weekend before this seminario!  (Photos by Erin Ellis)

Three more CYMP students accepted in NYC Arts High Schools!

We are very excited and proud to announce that two more of our students have been accepted in the Frank Sinatra High School for the Arts (FSHS), and one more to the Talent Unlimited High School for the Performing Arts (TUHS).  Congratulations to Emily Hernández, who will start her freshman year at TUHS and to James Crespo (Oboe) and Brigitte Saula (Viola) who will join CYMP’s violists, and FSHS Juniors, Thamara and Allycia Ferreira next school year!
