Star Studded - James Diamond & Drake Parker comparison
Okay, first of all I want to say that season 1 James and Drake are sososo cute. I'll forever love their hairstyles but istg once their hairstyles changed their characters changed and became more 2d.
Two different characters from two different Nickelodeon shows in two different eras. Drake & Josh debuted the year I was born, in 2004, and ended in 2008, just a year or two before Big Time Rush debuted in 2009 and ended in 2013 (correct me if I'm wrong). Both of these shows and their characters are very reminiscent of the time they come from, with costumes and dialogue combined with locations and sets. Both shows are four seasons long, but Big Time Rush has about 74 episodes while Drake & Josh only has 59.
James and Drake relatively have the same trope. They both chase after girls, aspire to be musicians, and are in bands of different genres. But what makes them so similar?
As CEO of Drake Parker, I analyzed that redheaded lil demon but I also analyzed James because somehow he's slowly becoming my second favorite guy next to Kendall from btr. Drake Parker will always be my precious lil scrunkly, but I'm totally not biased y'all I swear.
In their analyses, I touched upon how neither of their characters are taken seriously. Everyone else other than who is important to them just thinks they're as shallow as they appear. But under it all James and Drake have good hearts. They care a lot about other people even if it doesn't seem like they do. Of course, at a glance, it only seems like they don't care because, in their respective shows, they care too much about appearances or seeming cool and popular. But when you realize that in a way they were not the popular cool guys at their high school then you start asking yourself why they act this way?
Because acting like they don't care keeps them from getting hurt. Drake and James wear their hearts on their sleeve at all times but keep everyone an arm's length away.
Also, they come off as very independent but both of them are very codependent on their brother/friends. I don't think there's any time I've seen James with Carlos, Logan and Kendall or Drake without his brother Josh.
But what I'm trying to say, is these two are not what they seem. There's something under the surface, and I have no idea if anyone has ever touched upon it.
Drake and James don't want to be just another wannabe trying to be famous, they want to make something of themselves. They want to leave a lasting impact somewhere or to leave a mark for future generations to adore. They want to be more than what people say they are, which is why I think they're so similar.
Drake and James are constantly shown and told that no one takes them seriously, or no one likes their talent. Gustavo quite literally yelled at James on stage, but when Kendall told him to make his friends a singing group he caved. I don't even think Drake's parents really support his music, they've listened to his songs once or twice or celebrate his concerts but they don't actively care all that much. Josh is the only one around. In Really Big Shrimp Josh is Drake's manager and signs a contract giving Spin City total creative freedom which ruins Drake's song. Why weren't the parents at least involved?? Do Audrey and Walter just scoff and laugh when Drake says he has a successful band?
(Also Mrs. Hayfer and Gustavo hate Drake and James with such a burning passion-)
I may be completely wrong about either of their character's and that's okay because I did this for fun, but I guess it's also something to think about???
