Listen, not all Lich are from medieval period. Some had heelies in life and chose to keep them in their undead state. I don't make the rules.

Quarantine Warm-Ups
Day 4 - Lilith the Lesser Lich, an npc from todays D&D sesh. Been looking forward to introducing her to my players for a while, had a super fun time!
I had a very vivid dream the other night where my dnd character belfante turned into a lich (using the term loosely because they weren’t exactly a traditional dnd lich) and betrayed the party, running off to some abandoned castle ruins to act out some evil ritual due to some weird thing involving their patron hypnotizing them or whatever, and then the rest of the party showed up to try to stop them so they had a big fight. the concept and design was floating around in my mind for a while, but the dream made me really want to do some kind of drawing. it was originally supposed to be a sketch but I very quickly got carried away
You know what I want? I want a zombie movie (hear me out) where it isn't demons, or spirits, or a disease...
I want an old school D&D Lich to be using necromancy. You can do all those shitty demon scares and horror imagery, but necromancy. C'mon. You give me a reason why not.
Holy crap!
Guys, I'm running Tomb of Annihilation with my bros and it's getting spicy. My little brother who's playing a tiefling Paladin named Samael (Darksiders, kappa XD) is having strange visions at night.
By strange, I mean that every long rest Acererak visits him and talks to him, with each dream getting a little closer.
But that's not the best part. They'd found Samael's friend (also a Paladin) who was batshit crazy and tried to kill them. So when Acererak came to Samael in his dream, he decided to ask what the hell happened to this lady. The Archlich smirked and said: "In the end, the gods abandon all."
And imagine that Samael had balls big enough to ask: "How do you know? Have they abandoned you as well?" And Acererak immediately went:
"Don't stick your nose into the matters that don't concern you, mortal."
The friggin' audacity :O
I have a feeling that Samael is the first one to go. One does not simply ask the Scourge of Reality if the gods abandoned him. Cause as far as I'm concerned, gods never gave shit about Acererak XD
