So. I just finished watching Resident Alien, which I haven't been engaging with online until now to avoid spoilers. I have thoughts.
AFBSHWISYXHAKAAKJS D'ARCY BLOOM AND ASTA TWELVETREES MY BELOVEDSS they are SO FUCKING IN LOVEEEEE WHAT THE HELLLLL HAPPY PRIDE MONTH BITCHES
HARRY VANDERSPIEGEL AND HEATHER RESIDENTALIEN AGHHHHHH SILLY SQUID MAN AND BIRD WIFE AND HUMAN-SQUID BIRDLINGSS with the BLENDED FAMILY ALTERNATE TIMELINE HUMAN-HARRY HYBRID AGHHH
No but fr, I do like that Asta and D'arcy's relationship stays somewhat ambiguous, like they very much can be interpreted as having a deep profound friendship OR as being very obviously in love, it feels similar to how Jayvik was handled in Arcane and I thought it was tasteful without bordering on queerbaiting. Like. I'm sorry-- "That was the first time I heard you laugh, and every time I've heard you laugh since, it just-- it gives me everything I need" I'm sorry fuck,, I need a minute.
Asta and Harry's friendship is so unbelievably beautiful and special to me, as is Harry and D'arcy's. I genuinely love seeing m/f friendships in media, I hate when they get end-gamed into a couple. I genuinely enjoy that Harry had a fulfilling relationship with a person who was more compatible with him, as an alien, and that their romance was significant but not central to the story. Also, Harry and D'arcy together in the gray prison, their little "Maybe we aren't failures" dialogue... The "You are a part of the sky you look up at" Ough God they make me sick... I love they...
I might be obsessed with D'arcy Bloom. Like,, oml. My precious beautiful disaster.
The goofy ass puppet for Harry's alien baby was kinda ridiculous but I kinda loved it, it works better than some weird CGI trying too hard to be cute.
I have. Many more thoughts than this. The only thing I disliked at all is that Joseph never gets mentioned in the ending like,,, please throw that poor creature a bone 😭 I can imagine he somehow healed and was happy... Maybe Peter adopted him idk...
