“I’m guessing it has something to do with those crimes against humanity you call ‘Reanimen’” Ian replied flatly, hardly enthralled by the array of surgical tools and mechanical components laid between them both. “So tell me, how close was I?”
Sinclair’s smirk grew slightly as he responded “Close enough. It started out as an emotional inhibitor, fitted into the back of the remaining brain tissue to prevent any…”, a pause, and then “gruesome reactions”. The scientist held up the black box to the light, adding on “However, some of the later models I’ve been trialing also improve the finer motor control-”
“Anyway,” the redhead interjected, “thanks for the lecture, Frankenstein, but I doubt we’ll need that to revive him!”
“Oh, of course not! But this is merely a failsafe, should Mr. Ferguson come back a little… different than before”. They put the box back on the table, before adding “To be honest, I’m not exactly sure why Director Stedman asked you to help. I was certain that I could rebuild him on my own”
“I’m here to make sure that there’s actually Donald in that body when we’re done, and not some killer AI you installed” Ian retorted, his annoyance starting to become more and more apparent, “And I highly doubt you’ve mastered the litany of necromancy spells required for this project, so I think my place here is justified”
“No need to be so rude about it” Sinclair muttered under their breath.
Ian exhaled sharply, before seeming to calm himself a little bit. He said “Okay, here’s the deal: you work on putting him back together, I work on bringing him back from the dead. Once we’re done here, you get the pleasure of taking all of the credit, and I get the pleasure of never having to talk to you again. Deal?”
“On one condition”
“What?”
“You make an effort. No more antagonistic behaviours, no more insults, and you treat me like a coworker. Do that, and I’ll agree” Sinclair explained, a slightly more serious expression adorning their features.
Ian considered the proposition for a moment, before answering “Deal”
“Good” the scientist replied, “Now, let’s get to work, shall we?”

Random thought , there's not really a point to this post, but I just realized , Sinclair wasn't really punished for what he did. Being taken by Cecil kinda became an upgrade for him because now he can experiment freely and has access to anything he needs. Of course he isn't really doing stuff on people who are actually alive ( i could be wrong, idk) but still, he sorta got what he wanted and his actions before don't seem to have caused him any major negative consequences.
(This post isn't to talk about justice or anything, I understand why the situation played out like it did because Sinclair's work has shown to be useful. This is just something I noticed)
