1989 Falcom Space Shooter 'Star Trader' Launches On Western Switch EShop; PC-88 Version - Noisy Pixel
D4 Enterprise has announced that it has ported the 1989 Nihon Falcom side-scrolling shooter Star Trader as an emulation of its PC-88 release.
While this is primarily a shooting game, its uniqueness stems from its adventure elements. The main character, Kain, is approached by a youth named Lefi. The story, revolving around the Sealing of the Giant Gods, unfolds differently depending on the player’s choices. This design choice encourages replayability with different choices across multiple playthroughs.
As a Space, or Star, Trader, players earn money to upgrade their ship and change equipment according to the challenges of the stages. Various enemies are featured, including giant warships. Additionally, some stages feature reversed scroll directions for a greater sense of immersion.
Star Trader is available on the Switch eShop for $6.49.
The version supports English. However, like the recent ports of Ys I, Ys II, Ys III: Wanderers from Ys, Xanadu, Dragon Slayer IV: Drasle Family, Sorcerian, and Popful Mail, this only means that certain menus are affected—consequently, the main game and the gallery are in Japanese.
