Oedipus complex is something very fun to explore on fiction but I'm not surprised most don't touch it bc it's A Topic Ever For Real
what is dark academia, you ask? dark academia is being as far away from basic and as close to pretentious as inhumanly possible.
Already thinking abt nano and haven’t even started Finding Forgiveness lmao.
oh that is the BIGGEST mood lmaO
do you have ideas on what you might be working on for nano 2020 ? 👀👀👀
Meet a couple of my Dark Academia book characters!
Vera (left) and Juliet (right) are cousins and I love them an awful lot! Both use she/her pronouns.
i just want a group of friends where i can randomly shout things like “it’s not murder, it’s redistribution of matter,” or “i’m sad—basil, paint my undying youth,” or where i can randomly start crying about the prejudice against oscar wilde’s homosexuality, or the fact that socrates didn’t leave any written works, without being judged
i always see those posts saying that dark academia is bad and dangerous to your well being. and i agree, but i also disagree.
dark academia as a lifestyle is bad. murdering people, doing drugs, becoming an alcoholic, and overall just being a depressed, obsessive, evil person is not good. the characters from the secret history and if we were villains and kill your darlings are not role models, they are just that: characters. basically the whole genre is satire making fun of the classics and the people that get so absorbed in their studies that they go crazy. these are not people upon which to base your life. so again, dark academia as a lifestyle is not good.
but dark academia as an aesthetic is completely okay and has the potential to be harmless. wearing tweed, lighting old candles in your room, picking blood red roses, carrying around pounds of books, these are harmless. if you like the aesthetic, if you like the style, go for it. it is not a bad thing to have a pretentious style. wearing pince-nez and blazers does not automatically mean you have to live the life of the characters in all the dark academia books and murder someone. you can like an aesthetic but not completely live it out to the full extent as a lifestyle.
just a reminder that dark academia does not have to be toxic. it is not all or nothing. you can have an aesthetic but not a lifestyle.

photoshoot i had with my new favorite candle from Gunn Dean Candle [not sponsored]. really, get this candle. it smells like hampden college. it comes with a mood card. comes with a playlist. the packaging is gorgeous. it lasts a very long time for such a small candle. worth the money. make your room smell like hampden college.
