oh another thing from watching spn with my dad the other day. we were watching jump the shark and first my dad was like "jump the shark? you know what jump the shark means, right?" "yeah" "it's when shows have run out off good ideas and just do anything" "lol yeah i know." "wait what season is this?" "four" "out of?" "fifteen." "four out of fifteen and they're already jumping the shark?!" hilarious stuff. i mean, it's a dabb ep so *oprah hands gif*
but thennn i was trying to explain to him the whole deal with who adam is and the whole family dynamic and my dad was like "so he [john] had another family?" "yeah. and he was a better dad to adam than them. and adam got to grow up normal while they were trained to be hunters. so there's a little bit of jealousy / resentment / grief over that."
then a little bit later I had to explain the sibling dynamic and how dean was the older sibling taking care of sam as a kid (my dad literally cannot retain the information that dean is the older brother and NOT the one who was on gilmore girls lmao)
so i'm like telling him "yeah john sucked. he trained them to be hunters when they were kids and would leave them alone in motel rooms for weeks while he went off to hunt--"
dad: "but what's wrong with that? he's protecting them. he's fighting monsters! that's good right?" (ok kid!dean response 😭)
me: "but he'd leave them alone and vulnerable in hotel rooms. where monsters could still get them. and just like completely neglected them. and they were just kids. and dean basically had to be the parent and take care of his younger brother all alone"
dad (making a joke, only abt the last part in italics): "oh that sounds familiar huh?"
me: “ha ha nooo it wasn't the same” 💀 (i basically had to be the parent to my younger sib while both my parents worked growing up and we were left home alone a lot)
