Skekmal isn’t exactly an ‘overprotective dad’ but he does consider his kids a lot more fragile than they actually are.

And so if one gelfling wants to hunt, the rest have to tag along for their safety

Rian is considered the runt of the group due to his lack of wings or extra arms

Skekmal found Rian when he was a literal baby.

Deet appeared when she and Rian were both around 2 or 3

Brea showed up at the age of 5

Deet prefers to wear softer and fluffy animal hide

Brea and Rian prefer tougher clothing for protection

Rian wears the most trophies out of all the gelfling trio

Deet rarely walks during hunting; she prefers to fly

Rian is particularly ruthless towards targets

Brea makes excellent traps for prey 

Deet uses animal calls to lure prey

All three gelfling have bone masks that make them resemble birds (or skeksis)

Brea is the only one who can read and write

The gelfling have an odd relationship with UrVa

Skekmal won’t let them near his other half but UrVa is under the impression that the kids are unwilling participants in skekmal’s hunting

The other skeksis are aware of Skekmal’s protégés, however they don’t know that they are gelfling

After a long day’s hunt, cuddle piles are necessary in the cold forest

A more accurate description of this ‘cuddling’ is ‘Brea Deet and Rian using their dad as a weighted blanket’

The kids Dreamfast with each other during boring hunting trips

Rian loves making almost everything into a game or fun competition

Brea is the master of hide and seek

Deet prefers to have her hair up so it doesn’t get in the way of her wings

Brea uses her hair like a storage compartment

Skekmal full on snatches his kids up if he thinks they’re in danger

The kids will not eat unless Skekmal tries some first

Ok so dumb thoughts I had about a dadmal AU where he adopts Rian somehow and just thinking about AU where none the other Skeksis know and he sometimes randomly leaves Rian in his rooms in the castle (when he goes on  extra long hunts or Archers being really annoying he doesn't want Rian around him since he started calling archer other dad once he found about the Urskeks), none of the other Skesis go near his rooms because of all the trophies and skulls and have noticed him but Rian knows some of the guards and is friends with them and then the draining happens and the plot sort of happens like canon.

Except

SkekSil: We need you kill a Gelfing

SkekMal:You insult me no way

SkekSil: Ah but this Gelfling Rian bested Skeksis lies about Skesis

SkekMal: Rian?

SkekMal: 'oh you little sh@t’

Just very annoyed SkekMal getting stuck as chaperon to these Gelflings on a quest to safe Thra.

Bonus:Archer ends up tagging along as well.

Gelfling skekdad au fic five

Ordon stared down his soldier Gurjin. The skeksis has said that he may have kidnapped the girls and Rian had tried to follow. He knew that wasn’t the case. Gurjin was a good gelfling, if a bit lazy, and seemed to have semi-relationship with his….with Rian. “You had better have a good explanation,” he says, crossing his arms staring down at a rather terrified Gurjin, “the emperor is beside himself with worry about the disappearance of the princess.”

“Well Rian dreamfasted with me,” Gurjin said turning to Rian, “show him Rian. I can’t show it to him because it’s your memory not mine.” Rian looked slightly upset and uncomfortable. However neither of them were rushing him. He slid the gauntlet off his hand and stared at the now vulnerable hand. Both of them waited patiently until finally Rian places his hand against Ordon’s much larger one. Once again he saw the memory of Mira’s death. For a split second though, he saw a small glimpse of a little baby he’d never seen before.

Ordon pulled away and dragged a hand down his face with a heaving sigh. “I thought it was strange they had taken so many fighters in without me seeing them join the guard,” Ordon said hand over his mouth in thought, “this is not a good thing at all. We need to..!” He’s cut off by a sudden shout from where Deet and Brea had been dancing a moment earlier.

The three boys run over to see a gelfling of similar build holding Brea’s face in their hands. “Your here,” they mutter, “your alive!” Deet is trying to pull her away from Brea with no success. Rian dives into action ripping her away with the hand still gauntleted and his unarmored hand gripping Brea to steady her. “Get away from my sister,” he hisses lowly at her using his thick armor to make himself look big brandishing the claws that just cut into her shoulder.

“Tavra stand down,” Ordon shouts pulling her back before she can attack Rian. “That’s my sister I know it is,” she shouts, “they took her just like they took your son!” “Taken,” Brea asks very quietly, “but I’m papa’s little scrollkeeper. I’m not a gelfling.” Tavra looked stricken and around them the party had stopped. Ordon took a deep breath. “You weren’t born with them,” he explained, “I don’t know how for you girls but you were picked up by your fathers in different ways. Rian you…” before he can say anything Rian let’s out a wordless snarl. “Skekmal is my father,” he shouts, “I am skeksi! I am a hunter! I am SkekRian the hunter! I AM NOT GELFLING!” The girls startle at his yelling and he storms out snarling hands clenching and unclenching.

He needed to...he needed to hunt something. Anything. Something fast. Something that would put up a good fight. He brought himself low to the ground listening close in the rain. There. A loud crash in the woods. Something big. He took off into the wet woods jumping into the trees. It was a moose. Something was wrong with it as it shook itself eyes glowing strangely. This would do. He jumped onto it from above. It screeched at him and shook harder than a moose had before.

He hung on digging his claws in deeper to its throat. It threw him off and he landed on the ground. The blood on his claws was a strange purple. What was..? He didn’t get anymore time to think as he was charged the wind knocked out of him. He struggled to draw his knives from one of his hilts and stabbed it into the charging animal’s glowing eyes. It bellowed with pain and stopped it’s charge letting him drop safely to disappear into the brush. The blind creature stumbled bellowing loudly as he drew even more knives. He waited stalking quietly. He threw a pebble and it rushed to where it fell and he attacked its back legs bringing it low.

However it turned too quickly and it’s horns shoved into his stomach as it died. He gripped his now injuried stomach. Rian felt better, more alive. He walked back holding his hand against the bleeding hitting around it every now and again to keep himself awake from the pain. Brea could wrap it and they’d be on the road again with no more mentions of lost family. He didn’t need that.

Skekparent AU but it's different skekparent AUs mixed together

So, Princess Brea is friends with the Scroll-Keeper. It all began when they met in the Vapra library when she was a childling and she snuck into his luggage to see his library at the castle (someone else came up with this, but I can't find the post :/). Aside from Brea basically breaking into the castle, the Emperor and the All-Maudra didn't really see a problem with it and so allowed her to visit the castle every once in a while just to read books and scrolls. She quickly grows on skekOk and he ends up going "yup this is my kid now."

One day, during her visit, the Hunter's horn is sounded. Of course, Brea is curious as to what it is but skekOk tells her not to worry about it and leaves her alone a bit to see what was up. Of course, Brea wanders out of the library and tries to follow him but ends up losing her way. She stumbles upon a strange, 'wild' gelfling who calls himself Rian the Hunter, and apparently he's come with skekMal the Hunter, a skeksis Brea has never heard of or met before. She's a bit unnerved by Rian, but quickly realizes that he's really just a normal, nice gelfling but with a little bit of edge. They hit it off until their respective skeksis guardians come looking for them, skekOk close to peeing himself upon being so close to skekMal.

They're not the only ones with gelfling kiddos. skekVar grew fond of a Vapra childling named Mira and has been personally training her in hopes of seeing her become captain one day. skekUng, who occasionally returns to the castle, meets strong little Mira at some point and also grows attached. Then he finds out skekVar already called dibs and they argue a little on who gets to adopt this cool little spunky Vapra girl. They end up agreeing to share and that's how Mira got two skeksis dads.

On occasions when Brea's and Rian's visits coincide, they get together with Mira and they talk about their skeksis dads and just have a good time being friends (until the Essence Incident, oops--)

Been seeing a lot of good aus in this fandom already, and the skekparents ones are my favourite. So, I wrote a little something because why not.
