Chapter 4/5 of DLMTMSLHC Prompt: Sacrifice Callum has done what was necessary for him. And now, so must Rayla.

They docked on the coast of Umber Tor, unable to get off the stupid boat fast enough. The trip back home that would take a few weeks now that they weren’t in a rush was preferable to sailing back home any day.

They could make frequent stops at inns and marketplaces, too. Get real food and beds (or bed, singular, if their last outing was anything to go by) and take their time, not pushing it too hard.

“No, Love Amongst the Dragons is way better than Ember Island Players!” Callum exclaimed as they picked their way through the last of the Drakewood, their latest book debate. “What are you even talking about?!”

“I didn’t say it was better, I said it was infinitely more amusing,” Rayla chuckled, cheeks flushed a happy pink as she wagged a finger in his face.

“Yeah, because it sucked.”

“I’m just saying, I’d have a good laugh if I got to see it live.”

He slipped an arm around her shoulder, barely avoiding tripping over a particularly large root with her help, and squeezed affectionately. “Well, then, maybe I’ll have to take you.”

Her eyes crinkled affectionately, leaning up for a kiss. “Maybe you will.”

“I can’t wait to get back home,” he breathed, swinging his steps as open plains came into view, beaming without trying to hide it. “Can’t wait to bring you home with me.”

She giggled and shoved him, adjusting the way her backpack sat on her shoulders. “We should make camp soon. It’s getting dark.”

He nodded. “Long day tomorrow.”

“They’ve all been long days, dummy.”

“True, true.” He kissed her solemnly, and she fisted her hands in his lapels, pulling him impossibly closer.

Early beacon days I feel like yang would’ve spent a significant amount of time training and hanging out with her friends from signal and on and bringing ruby with

Obviously it would be just because ruby doesn’t have a lot of friends there yet and yang doesn’t want all her time to be spent with Weiss especially because Weiss currently doesn’t seem to like ruby much, and because a lot of yangs friends have probably already met/hung out with ruby as well because yangs brought her to hang out before or maybe rubys friends with their younger siblings

But it would probably be conflicting emotionally for ruby because on one hand she likes yangs friends and she likes training or going out to eat with yang and co but on the other hand it probably doesn’t help the distance she feels to her peers being two years younger because everyone in this group not only knows that she’s younger but knows her as yangs little sister

Doesn’t help her case that ruby apparently also looks to young to be there according to Weiss, like some people could get away with it cause they look older or give an older vibe, I personally managed to pretend I went to my sisters college while in early high school a few times, ruby is not one of these people clearly

Daedalus au yang and Weiss spend a longer time alone together post raven reunion because I think they’re BEST FRIENDS and I want a universe where they get to explore that as only a duo for as long as possible

In this au my excuse for this is that ozpin didn’t want his top operative(qrow) to be able to be accessed at any time by raven because she’s a criminal who hates ozpin so he uses his magic to stop her semblance from reaching him with portals but she still is vaguely aware of where he’s at

So she portals them to the closest person to him and they have to track him on their own

And because I desperately don’t want to cut down any time the sisters have with each other the timeline looks closer to like

For ruby vs yangs timeline

Like yang wakes up no arm then a little while later ruby wakes up and immediately leaves and then yang just leaves for her sooner then usual just a little bit worse at having a prosthetic

Like she’s still great at fighting as always but she’s got slightly more going on

It’s really JUST because I love the idea of yang and Weiss traveling together so much

They’d be so mean to people

They’d have to deal with how GLARINGLY OBVIOUS Weiss being an rich atlas citizen is, which is crazy cause people tried to rob yang who at least looks tall and tough just cause her bike looks like it’d sell for a lot but WEISS!?!? Screams rich girl

Thinking about Blake traveling with Ruby again cause it’s still such an insane thought to me

Like what a highlight to their parallels it would be

Because Blake started out as a kid a lot like how Ruby presents, happy, energetic, optimistic, just an all around ball of joy

She used to love fairy tales a LOT it’s clearly what got her into reading

But she loses so much of that after she goes with Adam

When we meet her she’s depressed and self destructive and pessimistic and consumed by guilt

But then after she leaves to go home, she gets a support system, she eventually accepts that sun stalked her and accepts his help(LOVE YOU SUN!!! She fucking needed it) she reconciles with her old friends and she gets closure about the white fang and Adam (this is the ideal end of her interactions with Adam she didn’t want to ever kill him)

She’s finally on her way to getting back the parts of herself she lost

So if she came back when pre Weiss and yang

Then the contrast from her starting to heal and Ruby starting to really get worse

Would be SO clear

Ruby who’s away from her sister for the first time, for possibly a very VERY long time, Ruby who’s abandoned the person who raised her to follow a cause she knows is right and just, but still can’t not feel awful about it, Ruby who watched her friends die in front of her and feels awful that she didn’t stop it, she feels alone and pressured into doing this mission and she’s been lied to by her uncle and her friends are grieving and they have no idea what they’re doing

She’s not doing superb

It’d be interesting
