being home again, being back in westeros — a place he would not consider a home, but was nonetheless — is not something daemian had ever predicted. he had meant to stay in essos, continue his work as a mercenary before retiring to a place near the sea. maybe spend the rest of his days in pentos where he could trade for his living and spend his time in the ocean when not. perhaps tyrosh, somewhere he could perfect his blacksmithing skills and make it a living instead of a hobby. though nothing sounded nearly as good as the life he had imagined with syrenna. a woman he did his best to not think about for the last time he had seen her, she had taken his heart and never gave it back. the life they built in their fantasies and dreams was one daemian wanted most of all, even if it truly could only be something he wished for and never have. she haunted his nearly every waking moment across the narrow sea. when he would kill for coin, blood stained upon his face, he would think of her gentle touch cupping his face with no care that she had gotten herself dirty as well. when he would see a young maiden and her husband, smiling and holding each other close, he would think of the way her eyes shone and how her hand had always fit so well within his own. when he would lay upon grass to stare up at the sun through the trees, he could feel the warmth of her head upon his chest and the ghost of her waist in his arms. the funny thing about ghosts was that they always found a way to show up again and syrenna had always been his. he had felt like a dragon called to flame the minute that he had spotted syrenna. her beauty was no less than it was nearly a decade ago, perhaps she had only gotten more beautiful as time went on, daemian would surely believe it looking at her now, fitted in the softest fabrics that hugged her in ways he could only wish to. if anyone were to notice, he was sure he would get some looks for all he could do was keep dark, violet eyes trained on upon her every move, something all consuming clawing up his throat. it is what draws him closer to her — against his better judgement — his mouth opening before he can turn back on his heels and regret speaking, "lady baratheon," daemian's voice is hoarse, as if he had not spoken in many moons, "i—" he has to pause, let himself collect himself before something goes awry, "it is a pleasure to see you."
