naerys & daeron ii
It may be a platitude, but…
Have you noticed that GRRM describes all the Targaryens as "heirs" of one of the three Conquerors? Literally every king in this family can be roughly classified into one of three groups:
weak and soft hedonists or mystics, passionate about distinctly unmanly hobbies ("Rhaenys genes") - Aenys, Viserys l, Baelor, Aerys l
cruel, half-mad devils, often associated with black magic, or good warriors, incapable of politics ("Visenya's genes") - Maegor, Daemon, Aegon II, Daeron I, Aegon IV, Maekar, Aerys II
gigachad of both sexes, those whom GRRM himself appoints as outstanding rulers/potential rulers ("Aegon genes") - Jaehaerys, Aegon III, Viserys II, Daeron II, Aegon V, Jaehaerys II
I'd like to point out that this distinction is arbitrary, but it speaks volumes about GRRM himself. He clearly gives preference to and brightens up the biographies of the "pacifiers" who come to power to bring order to chaos, as Aegon I did. Only such Targaryens are included in the register of the "great", while the rest of the categories are either "madmen" or outright nonentities. It's not hard to guess that the king in the end of the Saga should be someone who humbles and heals wounds, while the warrior heroes and inspirers will fly by.
My Daeron II Headcanons(cos there is not enough about my homeboy!!!)
1.Young Daeron II, reading books on dornish culture, while he was young, cos he wanted to know about his future wife's history and culture.-It was during this time, that aegon iv started calling him bookish.
2. Young Daeron II serving as Viserys II's cupbearer.(Maybe GRRM will change that who knows, should wait for fire and blood part 2).
3. Young Daeron II writing letters to young Myriah Martell to try and get to know her. They have been betrothed since they were like 5 no?
4. Young Daeron II gets nervous about meeting Myriah Martell and tries to not leave her side and defends her against his father. Bc he was raised by his mentally strong mama🤘🏼
5. Young Daeron II, getting bullied by his father on his wedding day feast, asking him if he even knew how to be a man to his wife. To defend himself Daeron replied that he "knew what not to do to his wife."-this response led to the further deterioration of their already bleak relationship.
6. Daeron II trying to pour his love to Baelor, as he knows what it felt like being his own father's heir and being sidelined regardless, hated even, considered a bastard for looking like his mother more*.(Not just that I know)
7. Daeron II letting Aerys do his own thing on reading and ignoring courts jabs on having a bookish son, knowing how it felt like having his own father belittle him for being bookish.*
8. Daeron II letting Maekar marry for love knowing he could've used him to marry for another kingdom(the Reach,Westerlands or the North.)
9. Daeron is extra gentle to Rhaegal bc of his outbursts, and not sending him away from court(which would've been understood at the time), but rather letting him be situated with him at his own high seat, so he could be with him bc it would be easier to see his progress in health.
10. Daeron II, verbally defending his mother against accusations of adultery. He knows his mother, a devotee of the faith, who wanted to be a septa, wouldn't have had sexual or romantic feelings for her other brother, just bc they got along better, than the brother-husband, Aegon IV(who canonically maritally rapes her, with the hope that she should die.)
11. I just know Daeron II low key is a switch.
These are just my own personal headcanons ofc we don't know how GRRM will write about his full persoanlity in fire and blood part 2 untill he releases it

Daeron II and his Descendants headcanons part 4
*For reference, those are the ages I'm working off of. Some of them are canon, some are approximations, but I needed a guide*
As I stated in my first post (which you can read here) my favorite era of Targaryen history is the time between the First Blackfyre rebellion to Aerys I's death.
This time we'll be going over Alys Arryn and Rhaegel Targaryen. I've been very excited to go over them since they're is a lot of mystery about them. ALSO! Arryn family tree for fun:
Rhaegel was the kindest of his brothers. he was particularly close to Maekar, and the two boys were raised very close together. Maekar was not to hit or chide anyone who insulted Rhaegel.
Rhaegel was his mothers favorite son.
Alys was married to Rhaegel as thanks to her brother, Lord Donnel Arryn, for being such an active supporter of Daeron IIs claim.
Alys was very classically Arryn, in that she could be rather haughty. That being said, she loved Rhaegel, and she was a very active supporter of his political interests, though very often he was oblivious to this.
The two of them were married in 198, just after the First Blackfyre rebellion. Jena Dondarrion actually went into labor and delivered her son Matarys during the wedding celebrations, which was seen as a good omen.
Due to Rhaegels mental health problems, it took them several years to be able to have children. This is also why there is such a large age gap between the twins and Daenora.
Alys loved her twins dearly, but she sort of saw them as political pawns, more than children. It was for this reason she pushed so strongly to have them wed each other, to make them seem like traditional Targaryens (a la Alicent Hightower, and her children Aegon and Helaena.)
Alys was not close to her family-in-law. She resented that Jena Dondarrion and Aelinor Penrose had higher stations than her, even though they came from vassal houses, while her house were Lord Paramount's.
Rhaegel was an excellent singer, and even composed some of his own music, though most of it was destroyed during the Tragedy of Summerhal.
Aside from Baelor, Rhaegel was the most Martell in appearance.
Alys was robbed of the throne five times in her life. When Rhaegel choked on the pie, she was robbed of being queen. When her son Aelor died, and later Aelora, she was robbed of being the Queen Mother. When her daughter Daenora was passed over as heir, and finally, when her grandson Maegor was not selected to be king.
Although Rhaegel had been close to Maekar, Alys hated him, and may have even started the rumors that Maekar would kill his brother. It infuriated her that Maekars line won out in the end. She eventually left Kings Landing, and returned to the Eyrie, where she helped to raise her grand-nephew, Jon Arryn.
My Little Fire Fancast
Is this anything?
It's funny how fans prefer to see this Daenerys as eternally suffering, always raped and without achieving any kind of power or affection for the life she had to live, only harmed by the evil men in her life, the one who forced her to marry and the one she married... Wait. Isn't this the narrative that TG uses with Show Alicent?
I wouldn't care as much if it didn't seem like fans are also using Daenerys not because they care about her or their situation but to attack Daeron and Dorn to sympathize more with Daemon. Curiously, the other woman who was also exchanged was also in an unknown place, canonically we know that she lived in a racist environment after her marriage and we have no evidence that her husband loved her for anything other than her political value...Those people don't say anything.
They don't want a character with layers, they want a victimized character that allows them to hate characters they don't like. Exactly the same thing that fans of Elia, Alicent and Sansa do.
The "other woman who was also exchanged" anon talks about is Myriah, who married Daeron. Her and Daenerys were both exchanged for Dorne to be enfolded into Westeros under the Westeros throne and neither can be really said to have been put into terrible, soul crushing positions or circumstances even with the socio-political unfairness of noblewomen being used in marriages for any number of reasons in Westeros.
This anon breaks down how and why Daenerys, becoming Princess (consort) of Dorne was likely not the horror that some fans paint it as in their belief that she and Daemon were in love AND their possible affections were like, one-in-a-thousand type of love: LINK.
