THE KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS: AERION & AEGON - Parallels, Themes, and Motifs
Dunk and Egg
By DrawSouls
the world might be a huge dragon egg right
i’m so not ready for the final akotsk episode… and while waiting i just had to draw something simple and fluffy with baelor and maekar being small and happy…… to use as a band-aid for my devastated broken heart🪦
da dunk n' egg show
commissions open!
Egg and Maekar’s relationship means so much to me
You have to give credit to these two. Dexter Sol Ansell and Sam Spruell they play their roles so well 😎👌. What I love about this scene is that in situations like this, words aren't necessary. Just a hug🤗
Daeron II and his Descendants headcanons part 4
*For reference, those are the ages I'm working off of. Some of them are canon, some are approximations, but I needed a guide*
As I stated in my first post (which you can read here) my favorite era of Targaryen history is the time between the First Blackfyre rebellion to Aerys I's death.
This time we'll be going over Alys Arryn and Rhaegel Targaryen. I've been very excited to go over them since they're is a lot of mystery about them. ALSO! Arryn family tree for fun:
Rhaegel was the kindest of his brothers. he was particularly close to Maekar, and the two boys were raised very close together. Maekar was not to hit or chide anyone who insulted Rhaegel.
Rhaegel was his mothers favorite son.
Alys was married to Rhaegel as thanks to her brother, Lord Donnel Arryn, for being such an active supporter of Daeron IIs claim.
Alys was very classically Arryn, in that she could be rather haughty. That being said, she loved Rhaegel, and she was a very active supporter of his political interests, though very often he was oblivious to this.
The two of them were married in 198, just after the First Blackfyre rebellion. Jena Dondarrion actually went into labor and delivered her son Matarys during the wedding celebrations, which was seen as a good omen.
Due to Rhaegels mental health problems, it took them several years to be able to have children. This is also why there is such a large age gap between the twins and Daenora.
Alys loved her twins dearly, but she sort of saw them as political pawns, more than children. It was for this reason she pushed so strongly to have them wed each other, to make them seem like traditional Targaryens (a la Alicent Hightower, and her children Aegon and Helaena.)
Alys was not close to her family-in-law. She resented that Jena Dondarrion and Aelinor Penrose had higher stations than her, even though they came from vassal houses, while her house were Lord Paramount's.
Rhaegel was an excellent singer, and even composed some of his own music, though most of it was destroyed during the Tragedy of Summerhal.
Aside from Baelor, Rhaegel was the most Martell in appearance.
Alys was robbed of the throne five times in her life. When Rhaegel choked on the pie, she was robbed of being queen. When her son Aelor died, and later Aelora, she was robbed of being the Queen Mother. When her daughter Daenora was passed over as heir, and finally, when her grandson Maegor was not selected to be king.
Although Rhaegel had been close to Maekar, Alys hated him, and may have even started the rumors that Maekar would kill his brother. It infuriated her that Maekars line won out in the end. She eventually left Kings Landing, and returned to the Eyrie, where she helped to raise her grand-nephew, Jon Arryn.
Alys Arren can be prim and always strict with her weak-willed husband, like not to take food with your hands, straighten your back, etc.
Naturally, she wants her children to come to power, since she considers herself worthy of more and better.
A Dragon's Death

My Dunk and Egg Fanart! As season 1 draws to a close, I wanted to share this special fanart I have been working on for my two fav characters! I hope you enjoy my interpretations of the show counterparts. I really feel like the show nailed the translation of GRRM's words onto the screen. I'm hoping to do more ASOIAF and AKOTSK fanart when I have more free time!
The more I think about it the less I like the decision to have Egg lie about Maekar giving him permission to be Dunk's squire. I think the novella's ending, where Maekar allows Egg to leave and gives them a signet ring so Egg can prove his identity during emergencies, would have paired really well with the scene where Maekar stops Egg from killing Aerion. That should have been the moment where Maekar realizes just how toxic of an environment he's raising his sons in. Daeron is a mess, Aerion is horrifically cruel, and Aemon became a Maester in large part to get away from his family. Egg is Maekar's last chance to do right by one of his sons, and that scene should've been the moment when he finally accepts that to do that, he needs to let go.
I think it's also kind of a dick move on Egg's part. There's something to be said about Egg choosing to get himself away from his family's poison, but to me it feels like he and Dunk's relationship is back where they started. Egg has run away without explanation, is lying to Dunk about it, and could very much get Dunk into a bunch of trouble for it. It makes it feel like Egg didn't learn anything when Dunk called him out in episode 4. Egg's decision comes off as kind of impulsive and selfish, which are two of the Targaryens' worse traits. That's the kind of thinking that leads you to get drunk and lose your baby brother for several days or to throw a hissy fit over a puppet show and then escalate the situation until your father kills the most beloved Targaryen heir in a century. I just feel like it undercuts the idea that going with Dunk is the healthier option which will allow Egg to grow into a better person.
That said, it's my only big gripe with the show and I still really enjoyed the finale. I'm excited to see what they do next season, and I really hope we get to see Dunk's reaction to Egg lying again.
Personally, I always like it in the book when Maekar, having come to terms with his son's wishes, allowed Egg to be Ser Duncan's squire and gave him the ring. I don't understand why they're botching the ending 😖. I expected so much better.😤
Baelor and Maekar Targaryen by CrazyTom
this gutted me... maekar stopping egg from killing aerion... to him they're all his sons, equally loved, but only egg understands what a monster his brother is.
Grief is a funny thing. Something for the final tonight
aegon the unlikely
listening to lords complain about tax increases (he made the evil decision to redirected finances to the starving northern smallfolk)
Maekar is a loving father because he cares and loves his kids but he also feels the responsibility toward Dyanna. As if it was her last wish before she died.
Without a doubt
