Yellow.
yellow: what do you do when you’re stuck in a block? list three sources of inspiration when new ideas are scarce.
If I'm only stuck in a block on one project, I will work on another. Sometimes instead of doing story writing, I will work on background stuff--fleshing out more history or culture, etc. If a block is really bad, though, I will work on something else entirely, a completely different craft. Or I'll read something either to try and get my gears going, or to simply decompress and let me creative batteries "charge" so to speak. Sometimes I'll sit down and play video games for a while and let things stew.
Inspiration from me can come from a lot of places, but the biggest one seem to be talking with people about ideas I already have. It's hard to say where inspiration might strike me for different things--sometimes I'll see a picture online that gets me going, sometimes I'll read something that gets my gears cranking, sometimes a particular song or playlist gets me back in the swing of things. A lot of times I'll be thinking of different things about the world none too seriously and then I'll have a train of thought that leads me to one thing and then another and then I have a few new ideas to jot down. For me, it's really more looking at something and seeing it in a different light, sometimes, if that makes sense. A normal everyday thing that I can fit or adjust to work for me in a different way in some world or story. I'm a big fan of tweaking things, manipulating them just slightly to be what I want in a different setting than real life. That usually starts me down a whole new rail of ideas.
whyswhoswhats said: I’m pleased to be the worst enabler, it’s fun and your ideas are invariably awesome
You and DagSys and Felspar all fall under that category.
I regret nothing.
AR, I immediately thought of you and our early conversations about neutron and pulsar stars. Also, the second audio clip I think you will like. Also for my own reference.
Very proud of my ability to get the sounds I wanted from the Hammond engine in logic!!! Love the sound of a growling hammond!!!
Dagsys Saga - The Album
The "Album" as musical art is a lost art form. Perhaps its iTunes that is to blame or short attention spans. Appreciation of an entire side of an LP in the basement while expanding ones mind chemically. It is with this in mind when I embarked on this project / blog. To create an epic musical album saga not unlike Dark Side of The Moon or 2112. I've spent the past two years it seems fine tuning the background story to this and even attracted a small group of followers, most of whom I suspect are more interested in the pics of Boba Fett I reblog than my saga.
I need to start focusing on the individual parts (songs) of the album and here they are:
Orbits (Already written and posted as DagSys Main Theme)
Evolution
Technology
Space Elevator
The Strats
The Revolution
The Follies
The System
The Pulsar
The Frontier
DagSys origins Pt1
DagnySystem was inspired by Miomir.
DagnySystem was conceived as a thought experiment - a concept of a world that existed in the proximity of a pulsar.
The name DagnySystem was a duel inspiration. Dagny Taggart from Atlas Shrugged and Dagobah System from Star Wars.
DagnySystem was refined to be three major moons locked in a 1:2:4 orbital resonance around a ringed gas giant named Dagny.
All three major moons are tidally locked to Dagny creating some very interesting dynamics for days, months, years and seasons.
The view from the moons surfaces of DagnySystem was inspired from the movie Pitch Black (DagSys picture)
DagnySystem moons in order from Dagny are Mimosa, Valencia and Bellini (names coincidentally refer to alcoholic drinks that contain champagne)
DagSys - Communication
Life on Mimosa evolved in the very strong magnetic field of Dagny. As such, Mosans have evolved two small organs above their brows, Mags, that detect minute changes in the magnetic field. Mosans also have an internal organ, the Ferrine, that has the ability to make minute adjustments to the amount of iron in their blood. These minute changes impact the magnetic field in the immediate area, detectible by Mags in about a 10 foot radius. Mosan's have the ability to produce and detect about 500 unique combinations of magnetic field fluctuation. While that falls short in and of itself to form the sole context of a language, when combined with about 100 facial expressions, the result is the evolution of a language system that is completely non verbal, and in reality, telepathic. As a result, Mosans evolve no organ for complex vocalization. Since Dagny's magnetic field diminishes over distance, this 'telepathy' diminishes on Bellini and is non-existant on Valencia. This leads to some challenges to the early settlers of the Valencian Frontier.
