anyone know what's in the new patch that released today? is it just bug fixes?
In light of the new DLC coming I thought I’d ask a general question I’ve been wondering about for a while. When a new patch or DLC is released, for the player that doesn’t mind playing without their oft-used mods, what is the best way to get back into the game as soon as possible with the current mod-activated save?
Should we make a “blank” patch merge – which would require waiting for the MM to be updated? Should we just delete the merge folder altogether – I tried this once while testing something and the game seemed to load fine? If we know there is an upcoming patch or DLC are there any preparations you suggest? Does anything change if you are using cheaty mods like infinite inventory and the like versus only texture replacements?
Thanks in advance.
Word of Mod Note: Excellent question!
Not using mods shouldn’t have any effect on your game aside from it not looking the same - in other words, it will be restored to vanilla appearance.
Some mods are Patch-agnostic, and can be used regardless of patch level. ReShade and SweetFX graphics overlays, for example, should continue to work.
Some other mods are independent from the Mod Manager. These include the DAI Cinematics Tools and Cheat Engine, which will probably break when the Patch is released. However, their fix will be independent of the Mod Manager if they are broken, and need to be reported to their respective creators.
Now, one thing to remember about the Mod Manager is that it works by incrementing the Version so that it is one higher than the Official Patch Version. So, currently, Patch 9 is Version 10, which means the Mod Manager increments its version to Version 11. Thus all saves made with mods would reflect a Version of 11.
So, when Patch 10 comes out, it will (presumably) have a Version of 11 - the same as the modded saves for Patch 9. This means that if you do not do any mods at all, your current saves based on a modded game should work fine with Patch 10 - there simply won’t be any mods in the game. Just make sure to delete the modded patch folder, and have *only* the Official Patch folder in your Update folder.
The only reason to make an *empty* modded patch folder is when you have already saved games using mods, and just want to play an unmodded game of the same Patch. This is useful for when you need to go to a DLC (Black Emporium, the Deep Roads in the Descent, and parts of the Frostback Basin for Jaws of Hakkon), since those tend not to play well with mods.
Now, as for specific mods, since they won’t be merged with the patch, you will lose their effects. However, this shouldn’t break the game, though it may make some things inconvenient. For the Increased Inventory Mod, it won’t, say, suddenly ‘lose’ all your items. BUT you won’t be able to pick up, loot, or craft anything until you reduce your inventory to the vanilla limit, so it might be beneficial to stick as much as you can into the Skyhold Storage chest before applying the patch and removing the mods. We can’t think of another mod that would require such thinking ahead, though.
Hopefully this answered your question. Good luck!
okay i'm sure you've gotten asked this question like a bajillion times but I've searched and haven't been able to find an answer that makes sense hahaha. so Origin automatically updated my copy of Inquisition and now none of my mods work (duh) but I was wondering if there was a way to fix that or to get around it, or do I have to wait until the next mod manager update comes out? Thanks!!
First, make a backup copy of your entire Patch_Mod folder (whatever it’s called). To do so, simply copy it somewhere else.
Second, follow the steps outlined in this post.
Third, don’t run Mod Manager again until it has been updated.
The coder who maintains the Mod Manager is aware of the problem and working on an update, though the Mod Makers do not yet have an ETA.
Good luck!
a 1.29 GB update and I can't find anything new
Waiting for latest DA:I patch to download. WHY is my internet so slow????
Did anyone else's scars disappear in the newest patch?
— Possibility to change the Inquisitor's appearance (Black Emporium) — Storage at Skyhold — Possibility to change the color of armor (... among other things)
Looking good, patch. Looking good.
