DAIMA EP.19 (Spoiler) Review/theories

• 19 episodes in & I'm wondering if anyone still hasn't noticed that Goku's hand goes from adult size to kid size as he wiggles his fingers at the beginning of the OP.

• Aight, so they kept the shot of the Kadan castle crew in the OP. Missed opportunity.

• Everyone getting their bodies back felt as magical as I'd hoped. Vegeta's voice sounded extra deep for a minute there. Did Ryo Horikawa catch a cold for a bit?

• Wow, so their child forms really were holding them back to a degree.

• So Glorio was only helping Dr Arinsu to pay back a massive debt & actually isn't the mystery majin she mentioned before creating Kuu. That's fine too. Dr Arinsu showed an impressive amount of maturity/nuance in not retaliating with violence/murder. (She seemed genuinely hurt, too) She's even more interesting to me now.

• As I suspected, Vegeta's SSJ3 form looks better on his adult body. Same goes for Goku's Pseudo 4 form.

• Glorio rejoining the group had me teary eyed. The immediate acceptance. The embrace. The music. Goku finally getting Glorio's name right on purpose almost got me.

• Crazy that they let Vegeta beat on a main villain Gogeta-vs-Broly-style for that long. But the Tertian Oculus may actually be limitless, so, UNO REVERSE. This instant revive spell King Gohma keeps spamming is awfully similar to Buu's regeneration that gave everyone so much trouble in the Buu saga.

• Oh, I'm sure this "Book of Magic Items" will be brought up in reviews/theory videos for years to come.

• Clutch King Kuu, back at it again!

• Not surprised removing the Third Eye is that simple & silly.

• First Toriyama made sure we knew Vegeta legitimately loves Bulma, & now in Daima, he's made sure we all know Vegeta finds her INSANELY attractive. This scene will be infamous. (Also, new song)

• Goku starts off by harkening back to the first time he went Super Saiyan w/his hair flickering from black to gold, then it's a short recreation of the very first time he went SSJ 3 in the Buu saga. Gotta say, all the heavy, dramatic shading, facial expressions & some of the animation in the scene of him going further beyond SSJ3 just screamed to me "Dragon Ball Deliverance". I like that Pseudo 4's glow was visible from all 3 demon worlds. (Cool new song, too)

• Not gonna name drop the new form yet, ey? Cheeky. Though, again, since it seems to be a magic-based form, Goku'll probably not be able to use it on his own post-finale. He'll probably say he'll train to get that strong on his own someday.

• Golly, the really saved half the soundtrack for these last couple episodes.

• Naotoshi Shida, I SEE YOU! Can't wait to see you go crazy next week.

DAIMA EP.20 (Spoiler)Review/theories(yes, still)

• So, I've been watching every episode 3 times each since this show started streaming, & I gotta say, aside from the fact I'll definitely be rewatching the whole show from time to time, I can't help but think about how this is probably the last dragon ball related project Akira Toriyama was in any way involved in. That unmistakable charm has clearly been very hard to replicate for Toei post Z. Plus, there's the odd coincidence of Daima ending a day before the anniversary of his passing. I think I'll cherish this show deeply.

• Good golly, there's so much to talk about! Man, the animators were going all out to top what we got in the Super Broly movie! (There was surprisingly less Naotoshi Shida than I expected)

• Goku was pulling out every combo he could think of. & flexing his booba. AND BLOWING A HOLE THROUGH A MAIN VILLAIN! This Super Saiyan 4 form was on that early Z movie Goku time. Ruthless. Also, no opening this time. (But the song did play for the ED)

• I was wondering where King Gohma's scepter went...

• That brief underground fight between Goku & King Gohma looked like an even more colorful version of that trippy in-between dimensions place Gogeta & Broly fought in for a bit. Hope they put it in a game.

• Give it up to Masako Nozawa, she was probably either 86 or 87 while recording these episodes & still screaming like a BEAST.

• Cool that we saw a 2D version of the ring everyone was fighting in as Goku powered up before winding up his Kamehameha. So cool that it shot straight through the Demon Realm layers. The water pouring in was a nice touch. The afterglow on Goku's fingers was sick.

• While it's kind of a shame Piccolo did less than Glorio in this show, CLUTCH KING KUU, BABY!!! I was accidentally right to call him that before. Yay me.

• The way the Third Eye was destroyed was so ridiculous. (Affectionate) Classic Toriyama.

• Kitty mouth Piccolo!?

• I somehow feel worse for Degesu, if only for the fact that he has to live with a lout like Gohma. Being non-infanticidal & easy to laugh at aside, Gohma's scummy, petty & bratty.

• Almost had me with that Goku raising his hand bit. Hail King Kuu!! Wise beyond his years. (Bro's like, 2 days old)

• The return of the "Super Saiyan bargain sale" joke! Aaaand, no explanation as to why Goku doesn't use SSJ4 post Daima. Plus no name-drops for currently unnamed characters, but I'm sure the Kakarot dlc will fill in plenty of gaps. (That game loves it's flavor text & whatnot)

• Ultra Vegeta?! (Do they know...?)

• I loved the moment between Neva, Dende & Piccolo. Sounds like Neva won't be lonely anymore.

• Lmao, Panzy making Vegeta wave.

• I knew they were gonna do that "checking in on characters via special illustrations in the credits" thing. Chi-Chi's outfit is so cute! (How'd I not notice that before?) Plus Trunks & Goten got new rad outfits I'd love to see on their adult forms. Also, I guess the Tamagamis gotta go find their D balls themselves.

• Well, we never got to see the bug-fusion, but we got to see that pleasant medi-bug shopkeeper lady again. That Bulma bit clashes with the bits from the Super Hero & Super Broly movies, but whatever. Also, holy extra frames, Batman! So smooth.

• Classic Toriyama joke. An all powerful, legendary item that had a massive impact on the very history of an entire realm, can be bought in a shop in the middle of NOWHERE. I love it.

• In conclusion, I love Daima with all my heart. I might delete these reviews a few months from now. No point in them taking up space on this blog, dead in the water.

• Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to reading the OG Dragon ball manga.

DAIMA EP 16 (Spoiler) Review/theories

• Had a mini panic attack when it looked like Degesu was gonna drop Dende. Anyone else?

• Man, the fact this series was originally meant to be a web series isn't doing it any favors. We even saw Raditz again. Ho-ly. Dragon Ball already gets a bad rep for characters just standing around & this episode is an example of that. Someone give this episode's director a talking to, please.

• The battle between the Gendarmerie force & Vegeta was a wet fart, as expected. Mashim(u)'s defeat was especially disrespectful. But they were surprisingly good sports about it. Gaimoi giving Goku his chips was cute, at least. I almost don't wanna know what flavor they were...

• Really? Those Galactic Donut restraints are just gonna unexplained?

• That unnamed Demon woman, whom I will refer to as "Money Demon" for now, got the special-extra-character-acting-animation treatment along for King Gohma this episode. I was worried that'd be an episode 1 exclusive.

• Panzy, honey, you can fly. You don't need to follow on foot. Though I do enjoy a good "running-stops to wheeze-keeps running" gag.

• Degesu sorta implies that Shin has been an active Kaio-shin for over a millennium. He also points a gun at a baby. Yikes.

• "It's a Glind's nature to seek higher positions." Yeah? In the Demon Realm, maybe.

• To no surprise, Degesu wanted to be the Supreme Demon King. To what end? It goes unexplained since he was thwarted by a hat. (At least something came from that trade for the Eye) well, he was actually karate chopped in the throat by Piccolo, so, guess Piccolo got to take down a main antagonist... Meh.

• Panzy weaponized a fly swatter, did you catch that?

• It doesn't feel like it's over for Degesu, though. That was TOO easy.

• Goku says that Tamagami #1 looks stronger than the other two. If that's actually true, maybe it has to do with how close it is to the Supreme King's castle.

• Nah, that Dr Arinsu pan-up from a boob shot was nuts.

• Well Glorio, the time has finally come for you to confess & immediately side with Goku.

• Yo, why Kuu looking so serious? Waking up from your nap got you grumpy, bud?

• Wasn't expecting King Gohma getting the Third Eye lodged in his forehead to be so silly. I loved every second of that.

• King Gohma gets the G.O.D Toppo build, as expected. Or maybe it's closer to a certain someone's transformation towards the end of "Sand Land".

• Looks like next episode is gonna pop off like crazy.

DAIMA EP 15 (SPOILERS) REVIEW/theories

• While I was certainly feeling the tension this episode set out to make me feel, the "just transform already!" fatigue has also set in. Also, probably too much time spent ducking for cover.

• This new Demon girl that traded her hat for THE TERTIAN OCULUS(who had great eyeshadow/lipstick & even her own theme) better get name dropped. Same goes for that buff red haired demon lady from Kadan's castle. She immediately shot up in attractiveness when she spoke in this episode.

• Also, did anyone else assume, for just a moment, that the new demon girl was actually Degesu who shape shifted? I sure did, until I remember Degesu's skin isn't blue.

• It was pretty funny seeing that demon kid from the opuru district point at Goku, the "kid with round ears" to their mom while there's a WAR going on outside their house. Priorities.

• Really feels like Dr Arinsu got away with getting the D ball with no consequence. Just how much can her silver tongue do for her?She even still insists that "Everything is going according to plan". Really now?

• Weird that we didn't hear anyone talking or screaming in their planes & tanks. Just KABOOM, & it's done.

• The way they casually showed off the Evil Third Eye's concept art was crazy.

• So the Evil Third Eye specifically grant otherworldly power via pure magic power, which is then interpreted by all demons as a sign of absolute authority. A guy like King Gohma, who so far has had his magic power hyped up over & over, better be an actual threat that'll at least encourage a new protagonist fusion.

• Would've been nice if they mentioned that King Gohma was the former "vice-Supreme King" as soon as episode 1.

• I said this several reviews ago, but thank goodness Dabura isn't being repainted/retconned into being "not so bad". Brother straight up ruined his father's career for the throne. Also, RIP bug bozo.

• I hope they release official drawings of those former Supreme Kings we saw in shadow. Their designs/silhouettes looked cool.

• The Supreme King castle guards sure wore goofy looking outfits back in the day.

• Degesu, buddy, drop the act already!

• The revive bug scene with Vegeta felt like a waste of a revive bug. AND STILL no memorable Piccolo fight. Like??

• Of course Neva's not helping, because that would be "using his powers for conflict".

• Gotta admit, the scene where King Kadan's plane got blown up made my jaw drop a little. The way the music cut off. Crazy.

• Based on beam colors, it looks like King Kadan's force might be using magilite as an energy source for their weapons, where, maybe, MAYBE, the Gendarmerie weapons are powered by life energy they've drained from citizens, which would explain why said weapons can fire up to 10 days. Will it be explained at any point? Probably not.

• First cliffhanger I didn't super like. Never thought I'd get negative about this series. Maybe the reviewers are getting to me...

• Degesu! Buddy! I know your Supreme King is about to get his comeuppance, BUT IT AIN'T THAT SERIOUS!

DAIMA EP.18 (Spoilers) Review/theories

• Toriyama, you Mad Lad, I LOVE YOU!!! I'll love you till the end of time! He really did say "let's do GT my way".

• Well, that was an interesting, um... Not recap? I don't know what to call those first couple seconds of this episode, honestly.

• Man, they really wanted to give the OG Super Saiyan forms their flowers in this show.

• Calling Kuu & Duu "The Clutch Brothers" from here on. Can't wait to see all those clickbait thumbnails titled "Majin Duu's potential is terrifying". Really like Duu's SSJ3 knock-off form. But what demon shop is selling cookies that big? They got Texas in the Demon Realm, too?

• Neva casually pulls up & gives Goku a mega evolution. (With it's own theme, too) Until it gets a name, I'll call it "Pseudo 4" for now. I personally like the big monkey paws. Most folk won't, I'm sure. Not being adult sized isn't helping. But that does set it apart from it's GT counterpart. Looks like Neva enhanced Goku's "S-cells" to me

• Pseudo 4 is clearly a purely magic form Goku can't actually achieve on his own. And of course, we all know he doesn't really like being handed power ups, so he'll probably say he'll just train some more and get that strong on his own.

• King Gohma seems to be constantly overtaxing the Tertian Oculus, making his limits hard to gauge, much like Z-movie Broly.

• Those 98% black & white shots were so chilling & memorable.

• Glorio, if you don't fess up by the end of the show, I don't know what I'll do. You seemed pretty compelled to obey Dr Arinsu, so maybe you actually are that Majin she mentioned creating before Majin Kuu.

• We've seen Goku get interrupted while charging a Kamehameha before, but that one felt MAD disrespectful. Bro didn't even get to "me" & got the Street Fighter K.O echo. (That backflip, though)

• And now there's a canonical Fire Kamehameha. Yippee.

• Wow, King Gohma, congrats on being the first to ever beat a red monkey man by becoming a giant. (Also, new theme, I think)

• Yet another new tune plays during Glorio's inner conflict. Him knowing namekian implies he let Neva tag along so as not to blow his cover. "Huh? Why do you know Namekian?"

• Super Porunga makes his appearance(W/ his own theme) & is leagues stronger than the Ultra powered up King Gohma. (Neva, what ARE YOU?!)

• I wonder if they'll replace that still shot of the Kadan castle crew in the OP with this Pseudo 4 form for the next two episodes.

• Don't give up on fusion yet! There's still some show left!

DAIMA EP 17 (Spoiler) Review/theories

• I don't hate Yoshitaka Yashima, but I almost hope he never directs another Dragon Ball project again. His scene framing is flat, uninteresting, (plus all the silent standing around) & as a result, suck interest out of his scenes. Some of his claustrophobic close-up shots have a lil charm to them, though many are just unnecessary. He could use some pointers.

• Okay, so, guess Glorio will fess up later...

• The difference between how Shin speaks to Dr Arinsu vs Degesu is staggering. We even see the return of Shin's odd grin from when he met Goku in the Buu saga. Degesu & Shin were talking at each other. Dr Arinsu & Shin's conversation was like a game. An unsettling song even played.

• So Dr Arinsu wants to go full conquerer on the outside world. Impressively ambitious, compared to the other motive we've heard thus far, though ultimately, naive, given what's out there.

• The slow/ robotic/ often awkwardly paced action scenes from base Goku vs Majin Duu were... very noticeable. But EVERYTHING changes once Super Saiyan Goku punches Majin Duu in the face. (Like Yoshitaka stepped far, far away) And again, Majin Duu is definitely going to be THE MOST INSUFFERABLE character to play against in future games. In this episode his signature move is "Grab with two stretched out arms, then mouth blast". Now imagine that getting spammed.

• So like, can we get fanart of that red haired demon lady holding adult Bulma like that, or...?

• King Gohma basically gives everyone the Z-movie Broly treatment. Not surprising, given Yoshitaka Yashima also directed the first Broly movie.

• Really? Couldn't they have had a scene where a few characters go "Neva, is that the Third Eye thingy you told us about off screen during a plane ride?", like, we had an entire chunk of an episode dedicated to telling us all about the Eye. Though that one shot of Abura hovering over the Demon Realm was sick.

• Fun fact: the "special ring" King Gohma created can be seen on the OP, right before the "Jaan! Jaka Jaan!" Part kicks in. Goes by in a flash. Easy to miss.

• Really hope they're setting up a clutch fusion in regards to Goku's lost medi-bug bag. Maybe Panzy with snatch it with magic.

• I'm glad Dr Arinsu didn't need several minutes of convincing to actually help.

• Gotta say, Tamagami #1 joining the fight was a highlight for me. From Neva being weird about it (use your WORDS bro), to the cool new song that played about 19 minutes, 28 seconds in.

• Later on, similar to how the Kraken scene with Panzy actually felt suspenseful/tense despite Goku being involved, the scene where King Gohma uses magic to hold Goku in place to finish him off got my heart pumping. (Probably thanks to watching the reverse-jumping that has been the "Everyone vs King Gohma" fight so far.) Shout out to Majin Duu & Tamagami #1.
