as requested by @camilaswife (and @daisyjonesgf subtly bc she doesn’t want me to be mean to firecracker) — here’s an aurora song analysis!!
enjoy pookies mwah
“Forced laughter, faking smiles, same old tired, lonely place. Walls of insecurity. Shifting eyes and vacancy vanished when I saw your face.”
this is literally how aurora and finnick first met. they were at a boring capitol party, being forced to pretend they loved the attention.
and then their eyes meet. and suddenly they enjoyed being in the capitol. because they both just saw the reason why to deal with these parties.
each other. at that moment, it was like a spell had been lifted off the both of them, and they couldn’t help but excuse themselves from their capitolite ‘friends’ and go up to each other.
love at first sight. i’m telling you.
“The playful conversation starts, counter all your quick remarks, like passing notes in secrecy.”
another this is so them coded. their first conversation was just like that. they instantly bonded!!!
aurora can easily counter finnick’s quick remarks with a joke, he laughs, she laughs, they’re all smiles. they’re attracting attention — lowkey the capitolites hate it because why is their beloved play toy talking to the girl that made them look like fools??
and finnick HATES the remarks that aurora gets because of this and he fires back at them, basically telling them to shut the fuck up without outright saying it (he’s got mags and later annie to protect from sn*w y’know!!)
time goes on, they’re so close, they love talking to each other. it’s like no one is there when they’re talking. but they also know that once they do get together (circa 70th games) they have to be a secret.
so they’re sharing kisses in secret in the hallway, the privacy of their respective apartments — even outright sending letters to each other and paying peacekeepers off to not read them or send them to snow.
it’s just UGHH i love them guys.
“I’ll spend forever wondering if you knew, I was enchanted to meet you.”
literally the second that they went back to their apartments after the party and later back to their districts — they’re both wondering the same thing.
do they know they just changed my life?
because they did. for finnick, it was like meeting a light at the end of the forced lovers and torture of being at the capitol — especially for a boy who was no older than fourteen when he began being sexualized. aurora gave him some hope in the world that he could be happy.
for aurora, after months of grief and looking for someone to have a reason to hold on to. finnick gave her that; even after a single conversation and one single stare.
they were both in love from day one. they were enchanted to meet each other.
“Please, don’t be in love with someone else. Please, don’t have someone waiting on you.”
THE ANGST HERE OH MY GODDDD
imagine aurora so desperately hoping that finnick didn’t have someone at home, that he hadn’t actually fell in love with a forced lover he had to entertain.
she’s DESPERATE to know if finnick would like her back, or even love her. and when the 70th games come around and he’s mentoring annie—
dear god, she’s so scared that if she doesn’t make a move by now that he’s gone forever. like genuinely she’s hoping that finnick and annie aren’t dating, that annie’s not the girl that was at home waiting for him.
little did she know that finnick was in love with her (and annie is their number one supporter bc she’s heard finnick NEVER shut up about aurora).
