I was thinking about this because I used to live in the middle of nowhere–with barely no cell service.
Honestly once you’re out of range of your own wifi connection you’re lucky if the servers connect out around here. Which stinks because !!! hey this game is totally enough incentive to get me outside and walking again - but I have to drive to the highway before anything actually loads. Boo. : (

when i managed to get the bracelets (which i heard weren't dropping) and then the oscorp intel (about which i heard the same) i thought i was glitch-free. but no. reading the reddit forums there are plenty of people with stuck timers, no intel, and no bracelets.

i just wandered around for an hour trying to find a pokemon whose silhouette i didn’t recognize and it nEVER GOT CLOSER THAN 3 FOOTSTEPS AWAY???? i went in every direction, i have no idea where it was and i’m still so distressed about it :(

yeah that’s definitely fair. i have started playing! team valor ftw :D it’s frustrating though because there’s nothing really near where i live, i have to walk more than half a mile to get to a high-density pokemon place :/ but oh well. i definitely have time for wandering these days :)
