Potentially looking for beta reader for my Jonsa fic, A Baleful Howl.

I started writing this fic before I was even a hardcore Jonsa shipper, before I made this blog, and before season 6 even ended. It helped me through a bad breakup and mental health episodes, and honestly it is very dear to me. It even brought me closer to my best friend, as when I was scared to tell her I was working on a long Game of Thrones fanfiction I didn’t even know she was a hardcore ASOIAF fan herself.

She helped me iron out plot details, brainstorm ideas and even told me when to axe bad ideas. She edited my first 2 chapters, and to be completely honest - the reason I haven’t updated as much as I would like is because I don’t feel like my chapters are completely ready until she’s read and ok’ed them first. I’ve been waiting for her to be in a good place to read my chapters. She’s been my beta reader and cheerleader for my writing since I was 11 years old. She’s been a part of my process for forever.

Unfortunately, she’s gone. She’s passed away. I found out a few weeks ago, but it also feels like it was only yesterday. And I feel both an overwhelming desire to finish this story she’s helped so much with, but also deep sadness that my partner isn’t here to help and encourage me anymore.

So I know I probably will need a beta reader to help me actually finish because now I’m filled with doubt more than ever, but I also know that my expectations are HIGH. I don’t just want someone who will read and fix typos, but someone who will actually help me through roadblocks and plot holes. Someone who is just as excited and eager for this story to be finished as much as I am. Someone who I can trust with the entire plot of this 32 chapter story and who won’t grow bored of it once they know the ending.

I know there are big shoes to fill, and this is basically asking for a miracle. But I figured I could at least put this out there for my followers, in case anyone is interested in my less-popular story which I actually consider my baby and feel I need to finish now more than ever.

90% of the story is already plotted. Almost every chapter already has been roughly written, just waiting for me to flesh them out when I get to them. It’s going to be roughly 32 chapters, I just need someone to hold my hand through them. Someone I can share the entire outline with and will say “ok, this is awesome. Let’s make it a reality.” and not just a fan of the fic who wants to know what will happen. If you are a fan, I would rather you experience the story like I want you to, and not be so involved in the creation that you lose interest.

So, if you’re interested, please let me know. If I don’t respond right away, don’t worry. I a) am visiting her parents and they don’t have reliable internet and b) am quite depressed and not online a lot. So be patient.

A note: I have not been sending any anons of late, let alone nasty ones. I have never once in my life made anything even vaguely resembling a death threat, in an anonymous comment or otherwise. The people that I (and @thefairfleming and @justadram [of all fucking people]) am being accused of sending scores of these nasty anons to all have me blocked, as far as I know, which would make anoning them a little tougher. I have had many a conflict with many a person (as evidenced here in plain sight on my wank tag) and literally the ONLY TIME the other party was flooded with anon hate was when it was the same small group of people in question here, who coincidentally get flooded with anon hate EVERY TIME THEY HAVE A CONFLICT WITH SOMEONE. Not to mention that the whole objection to me in this ship is that I'm an obnoxious bitch who doesn't shut up when she has a problem with something, which is more than a little inconsistent with being someone who sends shady anons and pretends they’re not her.

So yeah. Everything here as stated by @a-baleful-howl/@damdamfino is flagrantly false and deeply fucked up (and the idea that reblogs constitute bullying to her is hilarious). If you're going to say we're flooding people with the nasty, abusive things you claim, you better be ready to point to it on the fucking doll with some actual links and proof (which you can’t, because there ISN’T ANY, but let’s continue the thought exercise), because this is so far beyond ANYTHING any of us has ever done (which are, in sum total: publicly and with our own names, disagreed [some say rudely] with meta, bitched about the inevitable fallout from endgame shipping, deleted fics, used the phrase “jonsalocker” a few times, and NOTHING in the case of @justadram because she has never done ANYTHING to be implicated in this kind of shit other than being friends with us).

Fuck this shit. This is abhorrent and anyone who’s cool with it should be ashamed of themselves.

@damdamfino You are one of my favorite long term Jonsa bloggers. I think I follow all your sideblogs lol. I love everything you post from any blog haha. Everyone follow her! 5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for? (x)

Star Wars (PT, OT, Legends fics have been posted), Star Trek Voyager (mostly offline), Harry Potter (offline), Batman DCAU. I do have ideas for SW ST and MCU.

10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Yes, definitely. There are a lot of one offs, but I regularly read MCU but have not written it yet. I put that yet there, being optimistic :P

15. Is there an obscure ship which you love? (x)

Slightly tweaking my previous answer here. I forgot one earlier.

Luke/Leia is definitely a rare pair. I could forever read Luke trying to deal with having/having had the hots for his sister. Or pining.

Han/Luke/Leia OT3. I mentioned in a post for the Han x Leia Exchange, that I think it’s obvious that these three love each other, that can stay wholesome or go naughty, I’m in either way.

Cassian/K-2SO is the newest Star Wars rare pair that I’m stuck in.

I mentioned Janeway/Kim (Voyager) in the other post. I consider Voyager a current fandom for me, as my Janeway love is infinite.

21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote? (x)

Han and Leia domestic fluff. I have a pic to post. It is ancient. There were only three Star Wars films when I wrote this. I don’t recall which novel I’d read around that time, but it was basically Han being baffled that he and Leia actually have a moment of peace. 

36. What’s your favourite genre to write?

Hmmm. Is smut a genre? I enjoy smut, but I inevitably will pick a weird facet of the relationship and end up with something angsty and lacking an HEA. A lot of smutty things I think up come from pondering a question for awhile, so I sometimes end up with stories that aren’t the top ship I would read. 

Uh oh, I’m rambling.

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?

Well, given the above answer it would depend on that person’s tolerance for angst and Star Wars in general, lol. Padawan Troubles is probably my most refined story, like skill wise. It was written and edited initially in the mid-‘00s, and received an in depth update/upgrade earlier this year (many thanks @ashes0909 for helping me through that process).

Short summary: Anakin has been out drinking and doing who knows what, way past any sane hour, and makes a move on Obi-Wan when he gets home. Neither of them deals with this well and angsty smut ensues. No HEA. 

But if that’s too much, I have some decent fluffy drabbles from the February Pint Sized Prompts challenge :D

Heaps tbh. Criminal Minds, MCU, Harry Potter, anything I see recced that sounds interesting…

Either my early RPF fic, or the stuff when I was straddling the line between fanfic and origfic around 2011-2012 when I warped one of my OCs way out of character.

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

Ship markers in general have so many issues.

When someone nabs the url on tumblr and has unrelated conversations that you then have to wade through if you want to find content.

The frustration on ffn when you want to find a ship via search (because character markers weren’t always available and some people choose not to use them and ship markers are even more recent and also how do you mark for selfcest) but everyone uses a different system to mark the ship.Different order for names, different symbol, initial vs abbreviation vs first name vs last name vs title, namesmoosh, alternate ship names… people loudly announcing that they’re not writing that ship…Also tumblr where you get similar issues for ship marking with the addition of whether or not people put spaces in their tag…

Some fandoms just can’t make up their mind on a single system to use for ship names. *cough*Homestuck*cough* It’s difficult to figure out what’s going on when you have namesmooshes and punny ~representations~ and thematic names and fandom injokes, all lined up next to each other. Especially when some smart person decides to tag a single ship with three unrelated names that make it look like three completely different ships, leading people unfamiliar with said ship names to feel disappointed… (yeah I’m speaking from experience *salt*)

It’s mostly residual salt now; I’m in a smaller fandom right now, and my ship is mostly on tumblr where peeps agree on the ship name or ao3 and its standardised tagging system. I’ve also spent time in Pokémon with its list of carefully curated ship names that was up to 30k ships last I checked, and that… probably affected my tolerance for disaster areas of a ship naming “system”.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! 👏 Curious, do only followers of the seven say “seven hells” etc, or has everyone kind of adopted it? Lol

It’s almost everyone that says “seven hells”, even northmen like Ned and Jon and Jeor Mormont, and ironborn like Theon. But the North has been fairly multicultural for centuries despite their keeping to the Old Gods, and Winterfell particularly had Catelyn and the sept Ned built for her, and Ned was raised in the Vale. And it’s still rare among them, though, and not spoken by any ironborn except Theon once. (Who of course was raised in Winterfell.) Ironborn seem to prefer “hell” (singular), sometimes acknowledging there’s probably more than one. Old Gods worshippers also seem to prefer the singular (and unique) “hell”, a dark and frozen one.

Northerners seem to go back and forth on ‘hell’ or ‘hells’ - which makes sense because I suppose phrases like that tend to spread. Yep, except for a few exceptions, the worldbuilding’s pretty consistent, at least! The fact that the unusual exception is Jeor Mormont makes me wonder, with Jorah having been knighted (for valor) -- are Mormonts occasional Seven-worshippers? You wouldn’t think so, but it’s either early stage writing inconsistencies or a strange consistency for a purpose.
