Agents Of The Four Seasons: Dance Of Spring Episode 3 Review - Spring Meets Summer

The story shifts back to the Spring duo who are now working with the Agency to journey across the country to bring Spring back. Right now, they’re in the Summer domain, hence why they’re staying over at the Agent of Summer’s estate. If you think Spring and Winter have issues, it seems that Summer also has issues.

I’m honestly impressed with how the Hazakura sisters are written. They are twins, but they have their own personalities outside of each other and also have their own issues. I feel like sisterly love isn’t really talked about in anime. I feel like people always write sisters in media as siblings who get along so well that they don’t really need conflict and such, which is actually romanticization more than anything; Japanese media always has more of a preference towards brother-sister bonds or brother-brother bonds. I don’t have a sister of my own, but two of my childhood friends are sisters who are four years apart and they have their fair share of arguments and conflict with each other, so I’ve witnessed the ups and downs of sisterly love. I feel like this is one of the rare times an anime portrays a relationship between sisters as complicated, but also human. I honestly want to see more of these type of complicated sisterly love.

Ruri, the Agent of Summer and Ayame’s younger twin sister, has a bit of a temper and when things don’t go her way, she shuts herself. However, it makes sense why she’d be extremely sensitive and angry because unlike the other agent-guard pairs, these two are sisters. They’ve been together since they were born and Ayame even gave up living a normal life just so she can be by Ruri’s side. It’s definitely a huge sacrifice and shows that being an Agent sucks.

By the way, the scene where “Ayame” talks to Sakura in the kitchen is meant to be Ruri. The twins are able to be differentiated because they have different voice actresses and hair color. Ayame’s hair is black while Ruri’s is green. Also, there were animals peering over the kitchen while animals don’t follow Ayame around.

  Anyways, if you think the Summer Agent’s power being able to control and talk to animals is silly, it’s actually not. Summer is when animals are the most active. It’s also the most vibrant season, hence why Ruri has a bit of a temper. Spring is the season of birth, hence why Hinagiku can ‘birth’ flowers and plants because spring is the start of the season. Summer is the middle of the year and the time where everyone is most active. Autumn is when things start to slow down a bit as people prepare for winter. Winter is like the ending. You finish everything and now await for new beginnings. I wonder if I got that right…

Sakura understands the burdens of what a guard goes through as well. In her case, she’s been devoting her life to Hinagiku and has been the only person who was searching for her lady for the past decade. I just feel bad for Hinagiku. The Village of Spring just wanted her to die so that they can get a new agent instead of caring about her well-being. I can see why Sakura is fighting tooth and nail for her because she’s the only one from her village who cares and understands her. If I was Sakura, I’d be as upset as well.

Ayame is voiced by Ranko Baba, who’s more of a professional audio book narrator than an actual voice actress. She’s actually the narrator of the Agents of the Four Seasons audiobook and this is her first ever voice acting role. I have to say, she’s doing a splendid job because audio book narrating and voice acting are different despite both using voice. Ruri is voiced by Sumire Uesaka who voiced characters like Alya in Roshidere, Hahari in 100 Girlfriends and Nagatoro in Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro.

Anyways, the ending of the episode got me on the edge of my seat. I just hope Hinagiku doesn’t get kidnapped like before, but I’m sure Sakura will never let her lady get taken away again. By the way, how do the insurgents know that Hinagiku is staying at Ruri’s house? Let me know your thoughts on the episode!
