Ok, this is a really cool one: The New York City Baroque Dance Co. offers a Zoom workshop on December 26th-28th, called “Historical Dance at Play: Beauty and Geometry, First Steps of Ballet”.
I know, a baroque dance workshop sounds pretty overwhelming, but it is not! I swear! At least not the “Historical Dance at Play” ones (I’ve taken one of these before, and it is pretty fun!). So, here I am confronting your fears and telling you why EVERYONE can take this workshop:
There are 3 sessions per day (except the first day, there’s only one), and only one is a dance class. The other two are lectures.
For none of the dance classes is ANY previous dance experience required. So both are good first steps into the Baroque and Renaissance dance and movement.
If you have any mobility issues, do not fear. Neither of these dances require much mobility nor control, and nobody is going to push you into something uncomfortable. I doubt they might include any fast steps nor jumps.
This workshop’s theme is the mathematics of dance, and OMG all the lectures sound great. So, if you’re interested in math, you’ll see how since the Renaissance, dance, architecture, math and art, are all related.
If you’re a history nerd (of course you are if you follow this blog LOL), this is a great opportunity for listen to experts in themes that most history classes do not talk about.
It is on Zoom, so you do not need a studio nor any special shoes nor equipment. Just be comfy.
IT IS ONLY $25 USD. Yep, you read that right. And you can pay with PayPal.
