A bug crossed my path
Giant leopard moth caterpillar on June 3, 2025
(featured in my monthly colours scavenger hunt!)
A few guys I saw in late May, 2024: great white egret, periodic cicada (freshly molted), and mallard
Nature is good
Water lilies, common milkweed, and chicory are blooming by the roadsides (not my pictures)
The local great blue heron is starting to molt, and the goslings are levelling up their plumage
Wood sorrel and field bindweed are decorating the mown lawns (these ones are my pics)
Mourning doves are hooing, fireflies are blinking, and my tiny shaded garden has produced its first couple of peas
Conifers on June 3, 2025 (lmk if you can ID the species!)
This log
… has been here longer than I have. June 3, 2025 (featured in monthly colours!) - April 21, 2026 - June 23, 2026
Above: Coreopsis and oxeye daisies (cultivated) at the end of June, 2025
Below: fleabane, smooth hawksbeard, and some kind of daisy? at the end of June, 2026
Lmk if you can help ID that last one! The flowers are about 1.5” across and the whole plant is probably a foot or two tall
Above: Tetragonia and potato in my garden on June 3, 2025
Below: Tatsoi and more potatoes (3 buckets, many eyes each) on May 27 and June 7, 2026
This year’s tatsoi got really tall because my porch doesn’t get enough sunlight, but the pollinators loved the flowers. If anyone knows of a good use for potato leaves, please lmk! I wish they were edible, they grow so well
