Over/Out: Brett Naucke & Michael Vallera / dang!fever @ Bar DeVille, 3/25/14
Tuesday, March 25th, Chicago electronic music composer Brett Naucke sidles up with multidisciplinary artist Michael Vallera for a tandem performance of electronic improvisation. Vallera, fresh home from an exhibition at Hiatus in Los Angeles and Naucke, a few week’s eve from the release of his sophomore LP, Seed, bring an onslaught of heady abstractions to the Bar DeVille stage.
A single track from Naucke’s forthcoming record has been blipping across the internet for a few weeks since label Spectrum Spools teased with it early this month. “Luau” is a dark and rhythmically complex entry amid Naucke’s experiments with the modular synthesizer. The construction is also remarkably linear for an artist most often represented by space and ambience. Click play a couple of times here and look for the full feature on April 14 via Spectrum Spools.
We also welcome the return of D.J. Tan’s dang!fever project as commencement of the evening’s performances. After a spirited melding with TALsounds in February, we’re eager to see what sounds he’ll conjure up in solo performance.
Over/Out at Bar DeVille (701 N Damen Ave, Chicago, Illinois), every Tuesday night at 10pm, vinyl selections by Joe Darling will be heard before, between, and after performances.
