SCW-64: TALsounds + Steffi Neuhuber- barren is Far from her native Vienna, Austria, Steffi Neuhuber met Natalie Chami at an experimental show at COLLABORACTION during a visit to Chicago. Their friendship blossomed by way of their shared interests in electro-acoustic improvisation, ambient music, and strong feminism in the experimental music scene. "barren is" documents a series of the duo's live sessions, presented here as recorded at Chami's home, without overdubs. the musicians sought to build a shared language in their short time together, pieced together from delay trails, long loops, suspended synth tones, and whispered vocalization. Neuhuber performed on contrabass recorder. Chami sang, played synthesizers, and processed/looped sounds with pedals. Released by Cosmic Winnetou chrome tape, home-dubbed in real time. professionally printed j-card. artwork by sylvia monnier. limited to 75 hand-numbered copies. cw19 asphodel - aoikigahara, the black sea of trees TALsounds & steffi neuhuber - barren is c72
SCW-63: kyle landstra - Waldorf Blofeld Kyle Landstra, a Chicago-based ambient musician who has been a featured artist on Screaming Claws in the past, brings his signature gyroscopic (http://youtu.be/cquvA_IpEsA) sounds to his new track, "Waldorf Blofeld," named after the artist's new synth. Since Landstra just recently acquired the instrument, on this track he uses a single patch, creating a meditative, rhythmic space for listeners.
The Spirit Bridge Excerpt 2. The Current Sea, 2013.
Brian Griffith, co-founder and gif artist of The Current Sea, had his laptop stolen while performing at a gig last Sunday. Just before locking it, the crook managed to grab his SSN and it has since been a Identity Theft case. The laptop, a 3mo MacBook Pro Retina had yet to be paid off, just to add insult to injury. To Help Recoup Costs a fundraiser campaign has been started; if you can, please give— it will help ensure the zany, psychedelia you’ve come to know and love continues. https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/0orV9/ab/13jW37
I had my computer and some other equipment stolen at a gig last week. Humbling, frustrating and stressful.
Brian Griffith, one of the founding member of Screaming Claws, had his equipment stolen while he was playing a gig. Take a look at his Fundrazr— also known as "greyghost" he'll be making his entire release collection available for free!
SCW - 61: grey ghost & Raphael Arar - Culture Lab excerpt Screaming Claws co-founder Brian Griffith, who performs as greyghost, collaborated with fellow Los Angeles artist and designer Raphael Arar to create a soundtrack to one of Griffith's glitchy, GIF-filled videos for a sound installation called Culture Lab. The quiet, sparkly composition contrasts nicely with Griffith's brightly colored, Pop Art-inspired video. http://youtu.be/rYtqMdlN15s

SCW-60: Plenum - drawning up This week's Screaming Claws track comes from Austrian collective Plenum, made up of members Angelica Castello, Gobi Drab, Katrin Hauk, Thomas List, Maja Osojnik, Reni Weichselbaum and Screaming Claws founder Steffi Neuhuber. The gloomy, haunting drone recorded in the church of St. Rupert (Vienna's oldest church) -- which also features percussionist Berndt Thurner -- was remixed by Italian sound artist Urkuma.

SCW-59: cw19 asphodel - aokigahara, the black sea of trees | TALsounds & steffi neuhuber - barren is c72 | split Steffi Neuhuber and Natalie Chami (TALsounds), two of the three founders of Screaming Claws, recently put out a split with Turkish sound project Asphodel (Atay İlgün / Alper Yıldırım) on German label Cosmic Winnetou (run by Screaming Claws collaborator Guenter Schlienz). "Barren Is," a series of Chami and Neuhuber's live sessions, was recorded without overdubs in Chami's Chicago apartment. Neuhuber, who lived with Chami for a month after a chance meeting at an experimental show, uses contrabass recorder, while Chami provides vocals, synths, and loops. From Cosmic Winnetou: "The musicians sought to build a shared language in their short time together, pieced together from delay trails, long loops, suspended synth tones, and whispered vocalization." chrome tape, home-dubbed in real time. professionally printed j-card. artwork by sylvia monnier. limited to 75 hand-numbered copies. SCW-58: dustin wong / TALsounds / Mukqs at The Billiken Club on May 4th, 2014 Natalie Chami (TALsounds) and Max Allison (Mukqs), who usually play together in Good Willsmith, journeyed down to St. Louis this past weekend to play solo sets with the great, wonderful, extremely talented Dustin Wong. Mukqs entranced the crowd with his twisted video game/carnival-inspired set, TALsounds summoned magical spirits with her synths, and Dustin Wong showed us all the power of loops. And we got some video clips of it all!
SCW-57: Kanoi - "Sleepy Star" This week's Screaming Claws track, "Sleepy Star," comes from Austrian ambient artist (say that three times fast) Kanoi, a project of Benjamin Kantschieder formed in 2010. Kanoi's got a new album coming out in May on the German label clostridiumrecords called "From the City to the Stars," so apparently the cosmos have been a big source of inspiration. Listen as this minimal track sprawls out over the course of nearly nine minutes, celestially building and receding along the way. kanoi.bandcamp.com/ www.screamingcla.ws/ #screamingclaws
