Special Interests

Thank you to fallopianrhapsody and danialexis for replying to my post <3

I've come to realise that the reason I've found it so hard to understand special interests is that I'd been struggling to imagine how they work in practice compared to my own experience of things I'm "interested" in. Basically, I was treating my own "interests" as if they were definitely neurotypical, and then comparing them to special interests and seeing no/little difference.

Since realising that error, I've realised that most of my science-interests are probably actually special interests as I've got a long history of infodumping after learning new science or if people ask a science-y question. Woooo, doing the right degree! <3

You don’t mention it, but I find my English major far more useful than my poli sci minor in advocacy. Learning to argue well is so useful.

Good point! I guess I hadn't really thought about that as much since I'm in "advanced" English classes right now, but yeah, English is generally just really useful. Would you be willing to talk to me about your experiences majoring in English - like, what kinds of classes, which did you enjoy the most/least and why, and where you went and why?

I’m giving serious thought to a thesis on postmodern retellings of Robin Hood - so, basically, nothing before 1970. I got into grad school professing an interest in 21st century lit and there are only 13 years of it so far!

Now that sounds neat too!
