I love thinking about all the incarnations the hunters in the world of SPN could take, but one subset probably gained Elkins status if they somehow survived long enough: "nice old man, bit of nut, makes notes fro newspapers and lives in a isolated house up the canyon".

I haven’t seen this mentioned here on tumblr (maybe it was, but I never saw it), but during my latest SPN rewatch I realized something:

In “Dead Man’s Blood”, we learn that a hunter named Daniel Elkins has the Colt. We never see/learn how did he come across it.

Fast forward to s6 “Frontierland”, we come across a bartender called Elkins, and it’s obvious this guy must be an ancestor of Daniel, and this bartender must have picked up the Colt after Dean drops it to go grab the ashes, and then it was passed down generation after generation until it landed on Daniel.
