In fact, Waylon doesn’t even think he had actually chose himself to keep him. Instead he thinks that this kid chose him.
Right now, the small and skinny black-haired boy who’d inserted himself into his life was sat at the table his weapon’s engineer used to work. Tinkering at the bits and pieces scattered over the messy surface while Waylon himself hovered nearby.
“Are you sure that’s safe for you to be messing with kiddo?” The large, scaled man called to the boy, a hint of concern peeking through the southern twang in his accent. Elongating is ‘O’s and ‘E’s and ‘A’s.
“Yeah, it’s fine, I used to work on my parents experiments in their lab all the time,” The boy called back, and— unironically— it didn’t soothe his anxiety.
“That don’t make me feel any better squirt.”
“Well? Too bad.” This twig was going to be the cause of all Waylon’s fictitious gray hairs, he was calling it now.
Instead of lecturing the kid on safety, Waylon simply ruffled his hair with his large, clawed hands and left him to his devices.
Request from Anon: HIIII Can I request some Danny Phantom/Fenton x rockstar!reader? Like, Reader is the musical star of the school, sings and plays the electric guitar like no one else. CW/TW: GN/Masc! Reader, fluff...that's it.
[Masterlist]
You really didn’t mean to get caught up in another ghost attack! Honest! It wasn’t your fault the big bad of the week decided that they were gonna use your body as a possessed hostage! If you did, you would’ve taken your band mates' offer to drive you home that night. You're so lucky that Phantom came on quickly to save you, for maybe the fourth time this month…
“Phantom! Wow, is it a coincidence or are you just really obsessed with seeing me?” You say as you wrap your arms around him, slowly lowering your neck onto his chest as he flies you back down from the insane ghost villain lair you were held in. “Or,’ the ghost started “you like me so much that you intentionally get ghosts to kidnap and possess you.” he chuckled as he lowered your body, as your feet touched solid ground, your other band mates started coming towards you. “ [reader], are you okay?” Andy questioned as they started patting you down in search of any injury. “I’m fine, Ands! Besides, Phantom saved me~” Phantom’s eyes darted over to the side as you leaned onto him in a mock sigh. “Just doing my job!” He said with his goofy smile.
“Thanks again Phantom!” Andy thanked the hero as they took you by the hand, the rest of the band following suit, fretting over you. You looked back and waved Phantom goodbye, who did the same as he watched you be pulled away and into a car. “Wipe the blush off Danny, you look terrible.” Danny yelps at Sam's sudden appearance beside him, Tucker close behind with his hands covering his face, trying not to laugh at his friend. “Could you both stop that? Besides, we don’t even interact in my civies! There’s no way they’re interested in me, only Phantom.” He said with a wave of his hand, “now come on, let’s get going. I don’t wanna wake up sleep deprived tomorrow.”
It was the next day already and you were walking through the halls of Casper High. As you walk through the jam-packed halls, you bump into the local ‘freak’ as people call him. Daniel Fenton. “Woah there Fenton! Don’t want you falling now do we?” you say as you help him stand properly, “Y-yeah. Thanks [reader]..” You stare at him confused, “We never interacted though, so how’d you know my name?” you smirked as you watched him blush and stammer “I uh! Heard about it from around! Yeah…” Danny scratched the back of his head in embarrassment as you chuckled. “Haha, well then, guess I’ll see you around Fenton.” you waved at him as you walked away. Danny waved back as well, red still tinting his cheeks. “Okay you’ve interacted. No more reason not to say they aren’t interested in you.” Sam said as she slung her arm around his neck.
“Gah!! Sam!” he yelped “I said stop doing that..”Danny said irritated as Tucker laughed behind him. “Man was that hilarious! You should have seen how stupid you looked!” Danny groaned as he continued walking to his class, Sam and Tucker close behind.
It was finally the end of the day, students rushed out of their classrooms to go out, and others went on to their clubs. You were one of those that stayed behind, practicing for the upcoming music fest that the town was gonna hold. You walked out of the classroom with confidence, guitar bag slung over one shoulder and backpack held in the other hand.
As you walk the halls, you bump once again into Danny. “Woah! Watch it kid, I might ask if you fell for me haha!” You joked as you helped him up from the ground. He winced as he stood up “Thanks [reader], sorry for bumping into you again…” he smiled lopsidedly, you raised your brow at him, eyeing him for a little while. “Hey, have we met before today?” you asked the boy, “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhat..” his eyes widen, he lets out an awkward chuckle, scratching the back of his neck.
“Hehehe..I don’t know what you're thinking about.” he says, almost breaking in cold sweat as you inspect him further. “Nah, must have been someone else. Say, we’re gonna show at the music fest later this week. Wanna come and see us?” You invited Danny, he seemed to like it as his eyes glimmered for a bit. “Sure!” he replied, “I’d love to go and watch! You won’t mind if I bring my friends as well right?” you chuckle as you pat his shoulder, “Music fest’s for everyone. Bring who you’d like.” you winked as you walked away.
notes: Hiiii so sorry this is short! Wanted to pump this out as soon as possible…but worry not! I do plan on maybe making this a series, maybe a two parter. So stay updated for that one okay! Byeeee and thank you so much for reading this!!
John Constantine in Amity Park because he heard rumors of a demon loose who was being called Phantom: This place is sodding bullocks. How contaminated can one place get???
Danny walking down the street happy as a lark and not aware he isn’t masking his more ghosty attributes: —Just humming I guess??—
John: OH GOOD GODS THE LAD’S POSSESSED. HOW DID HE MANAGE TO FIND AN’ GET POSSESSED BY SOME ELDRITCH BASTARD
See, if I shove my bad thoughts on fictional characters then they can’t hurt me.

Danny was never really the same after the portal, being halfway dead was… isolating, to say the least. Not many people to relate to when one of the biggest parts of your identity is being dead.
Of course the other ghosts understood being dead, but then again they were fully dead and didn’t understand the ties that he still had to his life. And he was pretty attached to his life.
Sure his friends and family in Amity Park could understand at least part of his life, but then again, he moved out of town at nineteen to get away from his parents. He used college as an excuse.
Gotham was…. Fine– he supposed. Sure it wasn’t Amity. But the powerful feelings that always hung around the city gave it the ambient ecto his core needed to survive. And the Rogue attacks reminded him of how the ghosts used to attack back in Amity, but he didn’t really have anyone he could be truly honest with.
He couldn’t talk about being half-dead or technically the king of all realms or even about being Phantom with the people at his favorite restaurant or his neighbors. In fact, Danny was sure that if he even broached the topic they’d send him to Arkham for fear of him becoming a rogue.
On nights when he felt a bit too isolated, Danny found himself drifting to the roof of his apartment complex, unconsciously reaching for the stars even in his mortal form. His core instinctively reaching for home.
He would stay on the roof for hours sometimes, trying to see any sort of constellation or planet through the smog and pollution. The air burning in his lungs and throat as he pondered.
Tonight? One of those nights. His job had been treating him like hell all month, he couldn’t call Sam because she was busy with her fancy plant nursery, and Tucker was busy with his fancy programming gig so he was out of the question. Jazz wouldn’t do anything but fuss over him if he called her. So it was just him and his thoughts for the night.
Probably a bad thing.
Danny’s eyes drifted down from the smoggy skies and down to the alley below the edge he was sitting on. His beat up sneakers idly kicked as he sat.
For just a moment, Danny considered a nasty thought. Nasty, but tempting.
For a moment Danny wondered what would happen if he fell. If he jumped even.
Would anyone he cared for realize if one day he just– stopped. If he stopped coming to his frequented restaurants, if he stopped chatting with his neighbors. If he didn't go home, or if he didn’t call his friends or family.
He wondered if anyone would notice his body if he jumped. He wondered if his skinny form would be found and put in the news if it would at least be given a grave or if it would rot away in the alley below his feet, getting chewed apart by rats.
He wondered if anyone would care.
And he realized that he wasn’t sure.
Danny wondered if he should test his theory. If he should jump and find out.
The rubber soles of his shoes braced on the wall of the building, preparing to push himself off.
Then a hand on his shoulder startled him out of his spiral.
A startle jumped through him and he snapped his head behind him. Having previously thought that he was alone.
His eyes met the red helmet of the Red Hood. The mechanical wonder of a piece of machinery glaring into his soul as a distinctly robotic voice faintly spoke to him.
His core however recognized something distinctly like the Realms. It trilled and waved in his gut, feeling nearly like butterflies.
“-kid? Kid?” Danny’s hearing finally caught up to his brain and he realized at once that the vigilante had been speaking to him.
“Kid what the fuck are you doing up here?” The robotic voice filtered through the red helmet and Danny internally bristled at being called a kid. He was twenty-four thank you. Not a kid.
“Not a kid.” The Halfa brushed off the vigilante’s concern with well-deserved defense. —Well-deserved in his mind at least.
“Fine, not a kid.” Danny could almost see the eye roll through the augmented voice. “You still can’t just be on rooftops.”
“So? You bats do it. And this is my apartment building, so don’t give me any ‘private property’ bull” The halfa defended his [Lack-thereof] honor against the crime lord.
“Sure, it’s your apartment complex, just don’t sit on the ledge. You could fall and accidentally kill yourself.” Danny almost scoffed at that; Accidentally? He practically killed himself anytime he goes ghost. He thinks he’s beyond accidentally killing himself at this point.
The halfa still inches away from the ledge despite him not believing it necessary. It seemed to calm the vigilante down— at least from what he could tell from the untensing of the veins in his neck.
Red Hood slowly stepped closer— not unlike as if he were a wild animal— crouching and sitting down with a grunt. His large and beefy form sitting only a couple feet away.
“Mind telling me what you’re doing up here on these roofs?” The vigilante asked, voice gruff and distorted from his mask. But Danny swore there was concern woven in his tone.
“Thinkin’,” The halfa found himself deflecting the question. Even though his inner-monologue hissed about how he was being a self-sabotauging idiot in his sister’s voice.
“Yeah? Most people don’t sit on roofs just to think.” Danny could almost see the raised brow beneath the red helmet.
“Most people don't dress up to fight bad guys in the middle of the night,” The halfa pointed out in return, glancing back at the vigilante.
“Har har.” The sarcastic laugh sounded odd and out of place with the audio disruptor. But it was strangely comforting as the vigilante’s form approached, made clear by Danny’s core and the echo of boots on the rooftop.
Danny felt a firm, gloved hand on his shoulder. “Come on kid, let me buy you Batburger, I’m not leaving you alone.”
“Alright,” Danny huffed a small— if still half-hearted— chuckle and stood up, stepping away from the ledge and following the hero into the apartment building and down the emergency stairs.
Jason Todd x a character I’m making up on the spot.
•—•~•—•The Archivist•—•~•—•
Jason walked into the library, hands stuffed in the pockets of his leather jacket.
It would’ve been a sight that seemed odd to anyone who didn’t know him, a big and burly guy like him wasn’t usually the kind of person you’d expect to walk into a library.
But Barbara greeted him from the desk with a smile when he came into her sight nonetheless, exactly like she always did.
“Hey, Jay, your tea’s on the counter in the back, Tim dropped it off.” Barbara called over to him as he approached the desk her voice spent and edged from dozens of not-yet-cooled drinks and directing people around.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll grab it Babs.” Jason replied back easily, slipping behind the counter with a practiced ease and stepping into the back room.
Jason’s irises scanned the room— a habit he could never leave with his vigilante suit— and spotted his tea on the counter. But also a figure he didn’t recognize. Back turned to him and busy sorting files on one of the library’s carts.
That was a strange sight, last Jason remembered there shouldn’t have been anyone working. Barbara should have been the only one at the counter and working the back room. Louise didn’t start her shift until six when Babs clocked out.
Jason’s eyes roamed over the stranger, taking them in with the through gaze of a bat. Their plummy-auburn hair was presumedly cut into medium length, seeing as it was tied into a twist with a fancy hair stick. The end of which was decorated to look like a sword.
“‘Re y’ a newhire?” Jason called out before he could think twice on it, his Crime Alley accent slipping out easily. The way it did when he wasn’t around stuffy high-class folk.
The stranger startled and snapped around, eyes wide in confusion, clearly not expecting someone else’s presence in the room. She stumbled over her words to find an answer to him, “A– ah, yeah, it’s my first day.”
She let her words hang in the air for a moment before she elaborated on what she did to fill the space once she realized he wasn’t going to, “I–’m the new archivist. Sorting all the old paperwork.”
Jason nodded along, patiently letting her fumble through her words before offering up an introduction and an explanation of why he was in the backroom.
“I’m Jason, Barbara’s a family friend so me and my family tend to be around a lot.” Jason decided to finally pick up the to-go cup on the counter and test if the barista at whatever spot Tim had picked it up from messed up his order.
He was pleased to find that it was almost to his expectations. Even if it didn’t compare to Alfred’s.
“I’m Elanor… Elanor Finnley,” the young woman— Elanor provided as she smoothed out the long skirt that flowed around her calves, Jason noted that it paired well with her sweater as well. “I– just moved from Star City.”
One of Jason’s dark brows raised at that information, setting his cup down on the counter as he regarded her with a look that might have been concern or curiosity— who really knew?
“Star City’s pretty far from Gotham, ‘n’t it? Why move so far?”
“Oh, well— I was getting my degrees at the university there, moved back home once I was done” Elanor explained, going back to her sorting now that she’d calmed down.
They settled into quiet after that. Jason knew he should’ve likely been leaving, but he found himself lingering.
It was… strangely comfortable to be around her. Jason found himself wanting to know more about her.
He…. He might start to visit the library more often..
This isn’t a story post, but a question for everyone who interacts with my account so I’m going to be tagging my usual fandom tags because this is for those fandoms to see.
Should I stop tagging DPxDC for my posts that are only one of the fandoms even if most of my interactions are from the DPxDC fandom?
