Daria 30 Day Challenge  

Day 2: Favorite Male Character.

It was kind of a tie, I love both Trent and Jesse equally. Trent I love for his tenacity with his job, the fact he understands there are a lot of setbacks and he’ll be met with a lot of failure, but his job and career is the one place where he won’t slack off. Not only that, but his relationship with Jane is absolutely adorable and I love how he’s constantly looking out for Daria’s feelings. Jesse I like because I feel the same type of tenacity that Trent has for their intended career but their personalities are SO DIFFERENT. I like the fact he doesn’t speak much and goes with the flow. Plus, his beautiful hair.

Daria 30 Day Challenge » Day 19:Favorite Season

Okay so this was a little tricky to decide. Seasons 4 and 5 obviously were not my favorites so that left me with seasons 1-3. So I counted how many episodes I love in each season and season 1 and 2 tied. So then I thought about it and really put some meaning behind a favorite season so I picked season 1 for several reasons. Obviously reason 1 because it's the 1st! We meet all our favorite characters! Reason 2, Jane's voice and attitude weren't as "goofy" or super enthusiastic as it is in later seasons. Reason 3, you have awkward goofs such as in "The Invitation" Jodie looks almost bald and Tiffany Blum-Deckler is first heard with a valley girl accent instead of her trademark monotone voice. Another reason why this has to be my favorite because it was the first time we saw all of Daria's quirks. At first you think she's a cynical asshole, then you realize she's not an asshole she just has very high beliefs, she has a weakness (trent) so she's somewhat relatable, you figure out yes she's a "brain" but she's that way by choice and not to be some excellent student to get into the best college (opposite to Jodie) and in the last episode of the season, "The Misery Chick" we realize that Daria isn't sad or miserable she's just a realistic person and doesn't feel the need to let the world know she isn't miserable by smiling every second.

Daria 30 Day Challenge » Day 16: Favorite Place From "Daria"

Ah yes The Zon (pronounced like Zone) where Mystik Spiral plays most of their gigs, Jane first meets Tom and where Brittany goes to see what "other boys" do instead of football. Located on Dega Street along with Axl's Piercing Parlor. I'm kinda confused on the restrictions, most clubs you have to be at least 18 to enter, of course you can't drink. Theres obviously a bar. So either Trent just sneaks Jane and Daria in, which wouldn't explain why Tom and Brittany are there or maybe there isn't any restrictions just only at the bar or most likely, just how Axl didn't go the extra effort to make sure Daria was 18 before he pierced her, if you tell the people at Zon that you're 18 they let you through without the need for identification. Anyway why don't they have grunge bars anymore??

Daria 30 Day Challenge » Day 15: Favorite Couple.

I don't like Tom with either Daria or Jane. Kevin and Brittany constantly cheat on one another and both picture their futures without one another so no other couple makes sense than Jodie and Mack. I think they're very underrated, they're very supportive of one another. For example in Is it Fall Yet? when Jodie supported Mack when he got a job that he hates to pay back his dad. Or in Is it College Yet when Jodie wanted to go to Turner so Mack talked to her dad to convince him that's where she wanted to go. Clearly this show is shot from a cynical point of view, the flaws of anyone conventional are exaggerated such as Kevin and Brittany's relationship which is clearly dysfunctional but somehow Jodie and Mack still maintain a respectable relationship.

Daria 30 Day Challenge » Day 13: Most Interesting Moment.

From Season 2's episode, "Gifted"

Jane - What are you doing here?

Quinn - Um, I need to use your phone.

Jane - What's wrong with your phone?

Quinn - Nothing. Can I spend the night?

Jane - Are you kidding?

Quinn - My mother says I can't stay home alone.

Jane - I won't say a word. I'll even spring for the keg, but you have to pay for the dry cleaning.

Quinn - It's too last-minute to throw a party.

Jane - Then just talk on the phone all night. Ask your friends, if they could be a nail polish, what color they would be and why.

Quinn - I'm sick of that game.

Jane - You're afraid to go home.

Quinn - I am not!

Jane - Sorry, no vacancies.

Quinn - All right, I'm afraid! There's mass serial puppy killers and stuff. Come on. Please?

Jane - I'm going to regret this. (lets Quinn in) Never mind, I already do.

It's interesting because these two characters rarely interact or talk to each other and the time they finally do it's Quinn begging to spend the night at Jane's because she's too scared to be home alone while Daria,Helen and Jake are at Grove Hills. It's kinda sad too because all her other friends forced her to leave (except Stacy) and Jane is the only one that will tolerate her...until she pushes her all the way back to the Morgendorffer residence the next morning.

Daria 30 Day Challenge » Day 12: A Scene That Makes You Angry

From Season 4's "Fire!" and episode right before the plot twisting episode of "Dye! Dye! My Darling" is this scene that makes me so angry. This episode alone is angering for many reasons for example it's when Jane's jealously becomes evident and starts adding tension to Daria and hers friendship, Tom starts becoming obviously into Daria like when he only wanted to go out to pizza if Daria came along and when Daria starts unintentionally playing dumb about the whole thing. Just like what Trent said to Daria at the end of the episode, "But there's no use playing dumb, right?".

Now this scene is the worst of the whole episode because Tom purposefully goes and sees Daria before Jane AT HER OWN HOME and begins talking for a long time even Trent overhears and becomes suspicious and then Jane finally walks in. Just look at her poor face! Her heart probably dropped into her stomach at that point. Then Jane tries to play it cool by telling Tom she was going to call his house to see where he was and then the asshole has the nerve to snap at Jane "Because I'm 10 minutes late?" as if she were being an unreasonable controlling girlfriend. Then he realizes his mistake. Now I didn't add it to the photo set but right after he says sorry to Jane, he just continues talking to Daria ignoring Jane. Then Jane sees that she's the third wheel and makes it obvious that she's pissed and that Tom can finish his chat and she'll leave. Like how low can you get? Like this is the point where its obvious to the characters and the audience that Tom clearly likes Daria because he went to go find her first when we all know Jane and Penny's room are on opposite sides of the house. I feel ya Jane, you deserve better.

Daria 30 Day Challenge » Day 9: A Scene That Makes Me Sad.

*spoiler*

The scene when Daria tells Jane she kissed Tom from Season 4's episode, "Dye! Dye! My Darling" I just think it's so sad because right before the kiss, Jane and Daria have some tension then Jane finally admits she's paranoid that Daria and Tom have a thing and Daria somewhat dishonestly says theres nothing between her and Tom and then like 10 minutes later she kisses Tom twice! Now in this scene Jane is all cheery because she feels like she settled her issues with Daria and then Daria tells her the thing she was fearing the most PLUS she does it in front of a group of friends which adds insult into injury, first she basically breaks Jane's heart then she does it in front of everyone which is embarrassing. Plus this whole issue sucks. Who does Jane have to turn to now to talk about this? Her friend AND boyfriend betrayed her, luckily she has Trent. Plus then Daria realizes she wrecked up a great friendship for a guy which she probably would of never predicted.

Daria 30 Day Challenge » Day 8: Favorite Quote.

Okay techniqually it's two quotes but for some reason I love this quote. It's not super meaningful (like the answer Daria gives when asked what her goal is in "Gifted") or super hilarious (like when Daria tells Quinn her tattoo is fake to match her personality) but this one sticks to me. I guess I one day aspire to have such a friend I can use these sly digs on.
