He felt like he was slowly going insane. Half of the time there was no signal, he didn't even have headphones, all he heard for the last months were moans of his greatest enemy and the craziest, most delusional woman that ever walked the Earth.

It made him think that this whole thing was his purgatory, and yet he couldn't remember when he had died. It was troublesome. Something he could waste his time thinking about.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard Movie Review

The world's top protection agent is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world's most notorious hit men. The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. 

Unfortunately I never got around to seeing The Hitman’s Bodyguard whilst it was in cinemas; I think it would’ve been a truly amusing experience. This film works precisely because of the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson – everything else is secondary. 

Whilst the action scenes are fun (though the chase sequence around the river is nowhere near as much fun as when it was a viral video which we all thought was real!), I was more drawn to the tension and bonding moments between Michael and Kincaid, Reynolds and SLJ respectively. However, I must admit that Salma Hayek’s action scenes were particularly eye-catching, and I’m excited to see what happens in the film’s sequel. 

Michael and Kincaid go about their jobs quite differently – Michael is straight-laced with perfectly detailed plans, whilst Kincaid is a fly by the seat of your pants kind of guy, enjoying the thrill of spontaneity. These differences allow for much of the film’s humour, as Kincaid attempts to lighten the mood (and Michael’s attitude) as they journey together. Slowly but surely, the two men open up to each other about their lives and the women they love. As they come to understand each other better, they learn to work together more efficiently to evade their enemies. 

In the end, though they frustrate each other to hell and back, Michael and Kincaid truly respect each other. It’s why they come to the aid of each other even when they say they won’t. Their relationship was easily the most engaging aspect of the film.
