Dark Heiji (5)
Still the same flashback
After his father had dragged him away, there was one thought stuck in Heiji's head: For him, I am the biggest mistake he ever made. And if that was the case, then he should at least have a reason for it. Heiji would make his father's life a living hell, only how he didn't know yet.
One could not irritate his father with a murder, he had witnessed that already. But if his father would be guilty of a murder himself or would be involved in some other dirty business ...
Given the ease with which his father had swept Heiji's case under the rug, he was almost certain that this was the case. All he had to do was to find out which crime he had committed and his father's good reputation would be gone. Heiji would take away the only thing he cared about.
Getting access to the police archives was the easiest part of his plan. He just had to ask Otaki nicely and there he was, inside, surrounded by thousands of important files. Files that contained details about really every case that happened here in Osaka. Even about his father's cases and so Heiji set about finding discrepancies.
Most of the files were clean, but some descriptions made him wonder and in this one, he finally got his finger stuck on a paragraph.
"The murder weapon was never found," he read aloud. And yet it was there in the photo of the crime scene. Of course, it wasn't that obvious, but if you looked closely and knew what you were looking for ... After that, no one had entered the crime scene, so someone from the police must have removed it. The perpetrator was never caught either. Well, if that doesn't stink of a cover-up, Heiji thought to himself. All he needed was ...
"The police officers who had been involved in this case ... Let's see." There, he found them. Strangely, however, none of the names seemed familiar to him.
Even Otaki, with whom he inquired, seemed to have heard of them only fleetingly. They rarely showed up at the headquarters, and when they did, they didn't stay long. Why hadn't he noticed them before? What were they doing all day while others were busy with paperwork?
Heiji decided to find out for himself and the next time they came, he followed them. That's how he met the men in black for the first time.
